No away point for Coventry apparently 11:23 - Jan 26 with 6796 viewsMullet

Presumably to put off the touts and people hoarding points after the Wimbledon debacle. Must be the easier option for the club.

Perfect opportunity now for a few people who can’t get tickets.

Just as an aside most Prem clubs operate the same away points system as Ipswich, so those expecting significant change are unlikely to see it if we stay up.

My mate at Chelsea tells me his bracket is currently 77 points.

I’ve seen people say they won’t renew their membership next season but I’m not sure the club will worry too much given the other income being generated.

They certainly won’t give season ticket holders any more away game priority, which is quite right. I don’t know of any other Prem club that does that and season ticket holders are already guaranteed a seat at every home game, which is gold dust right now.

You pay your membership to give you a chance of away tickets (and home tickets if you’re not a season ticket holder).

If you can’t get those away tickets because you didn’t go enough in the past, well that’s tough but fair. It’s no different to anyone who wants a season ticket right now. You had an opportunity, you didn’t take it, you can’t moan about it now.

Indeed. Far worse is what Fulham did on Boxing Day - getting rid of all priority and just giving open season to all ST holders fpr Chelsea away?! Imagine if we did that for Norwich!! I'd be very hacked off if I supported them right now:

Very disappointing decision.

Understand the logic to some extent.

But very unfair on those locked out of the closed shop and between 11 and 20 away points.

Why not allow the away point for sub 20 (or 25) but cancel it for 20+ (or 25+)?

because that isn't fair. What about those who may need the point this year so they have that in the bag next season when the championship points are wiped? only fair if all or no one

Best idea would be to say there is no points for it so people don't just game it, and then award a point afterwards to all those who go

By my reckoning, the decision that cup games will no longer count for away points means that the maximum away points anyone can get this season will be 20 (19 league games plus Wimbledon).

Added to 10 points for renewing membership, 30 will therefore be the maximum points at the start of next season, although sadly this may not be of much help to those who have struggled to get to away games this season.

Will these even get to season ticket holders?
A decent allocation but I doubt if there'll be many left by 4th Feb.

Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

I am not sure it will, I guess it depends on how many regular away followers want to go to Coventry again.

I will be waiting for the 5 point bracket, as have three in our group that only have 5 points. Hopefully it will get down to that level.

Looks like a lot of demand from those locked out of away games, should easily sell out.

That's the best suggestion I've seen

I suspect so. I know a few, myself included, who don't want to go back to Coventry again for a cup game, esp with the cost of league away games. Just had to buy Man U tickets at over £60 for two so cant really justify Coventry on the same day. With 5000 tickets I reckon it will get to ST holders

Membership costs £40, no guarantee of a ticket. Larger allocation for Coventry - I among others hopeful of obtaining one and improving our points balance.

No points on this one.

Ridiculous.

Easier option but not the fairest.

People who want to go should still get a point to reward them, and those who buy a ticket up and don't use it should be punished. This just further isolates those of us who would love to go to away games but can't get any points via the league.

The away system is just a closed shop now and the club don't seem to care at all about anyone else.

It is possible for something to be agreeable and also open to disagreement. I completely agree with your sentiments in respect of the current away points system as it will always favour those who already have the most points to get even more. That, however, is also its purpose in a lot of ways. I dislike the term ‘closed shop’ as among those on the most points is a really good number that go to almost every away game and were doing so even during the dark league one/ Marcus Evans pre Covid days, whose loyalty is rightly rewarded by this system.

I personally disagree with the ‘no point’ for this game. I will be going to Coventry regardless, but I understand people’s frustration. For the cup games (home and away), points should be added only for members who purchase with 15-17 points or less, so they have some form of opportunity to catch up. Club would then give those currently out of contention a reason to feel that buying a ticket membership is remotely worthwhile. For as long as people in those lower points tiers keep buying the memberships, nothing will change is the reality I think it’s fair to say.
