There was a time not so long ago that Sky Sports were the beacon of transfer news and information.

No we get a panel of 'transfer experts' who are just content creators and reporting that might as well have just been a summary of a few of the threads on here.

Now they wheel out some idiot like Merson who says something which flies in the face of logic and then it's reported as fact.

Truly impaired.

The world in general is only interested in opinions nowadays, news outlets mirror comment sections and message boards, 24/7 rolling news requires constant clicks & attention at all costs. We live in the age of content creation, not journalism.

Because our attention has been monetised on an industrial scale, skewing our expectations and attention spans, reducing patience & tolerance, and deepening the powers of anxiety and immediacy.

Very few people watch these types of shows in 2025. Even fewer under the age of 40, there isn't the interest anymore, people can get the information they want curated through their smartphone. People aren't hanging onto Sky for transfer news anymore, it's a dinosaur.

I take your point but if very few people were watching those shows then Sky wouldn’t bother employing the presenter or paying the pundits or have outside broadcasts, which are expensive. There must be a market to do so otherwise they’ll just put on a reply of a match.

I actually think they tend to make it fairly clear when it is simply general speculation (no names involved or thought to be interested in/preparing to put a bid in etc), when it is an actual bid and when a transfer is going through etc. They seem to have a good handle on what is a good source of information.
