No subject 18:43 - Jan 30 with 7121 views | textbackup | Is anyone a little concerned that we face the final 15 games with the squad we have? (Appreciate there is time to add a couple of others still - but worse case) Because at present this squad sees us sitting 19th, with 3 wins to our name, and 21 goals scored, in 23 games. I know ‘bla bla negative’ but that’s the hard truth of the current situation, isn’t it.

I might be being thick, but I don't see the link between being a seasoned international and having the ability to play 90 minutes? Cajuste carries an injury, but gives us so much when he's on. Why shouldn't a CM typically do shorter high quality spells just like our forwards do? You use the qualities you have in the best way for the whole team.

Hirst and Delap is a good enough starter/finisher combo and I can't realistically see us finding a forward who will get up to speed quickly enough to have an impact. It's CM that worries me. Cajuste is class - but clearly isn't able to complete 90 minutes once a week. Morsy is already at legend status for the club, but there's no hiding the fact that after a great start to the season he's struggling and starting to fade in most games. Phillips has been a huge disappointment - not a disaster as some will portray him as, but he's become so passive/cautious in his ball movement. It has to be between the ears because against Bristol Rovers he showed us that when his head is in the game then he's a class above. Sadly, I just don't think he's mentally able to perform to his Leeds standards when up against top class opposition. Taylor is a handy bench player and Luongo clearly can't meet the pace of the premier league. GK would be my second area to focus on - but not sure how we bring in a new number 1 without disrupting the whole team. Has to be a priority in the summer regardless of what league we are in.

Without another CF.... on 18:50 - Jan 30 by Bloots | ...we are very likely to get relegated. We have to assume we will get one in before Monday night, it's essentially incompetence from our recruitment team otherwise. Keep the faith. |
The issue is more getting a centre forward that is good enough. Half the PL wants one and as far as I can see, every one seems to be struggling.

Without another CF.... on 19:29 - Jan 30 by Dubtractor | I think it's worth remembering that it's only 3 games ago that optimism was high in here after the draw at Fulham, and 2 of the 3 games since were probably our hardest of the season. I do share the concern about not getting another CF, and I will feel a LOT more confident about our survival if we d get one, but I think we need to be careful not to let the last 2 games shape our view too much. Win on Saturday (and it is prob a must win), and we'll all be feeling optimistic again. |
Yes, think that's right. We still have the same gaping gap in the squad we have had since August and have already seen how that has hampered us and probably cost points in the first half of the season. Even without that though, we are far from down already. In the context of the season though, the next four days are massive. Bear Southampton and get a forward in and we are well set, fail to do either or even both and it's rather less so.

I don't think anyone questions Hirsts or Delaps ability,it's more the question of can we rely on both to be fit and available every game now until the end of the season. With Hirsts injury record and Delap a walking yellow card,it's a hell of a gamble.

No subject on 08:50 - Jan 31 with 413 views | E_I_E_I_E_I_O | No. We have 2 very highly rated extra players that we did not have in the previous games and the rotation after 70 mins will now be much better. Had we had these extra players all season we'd no doubt have 4-5 extra points and therefore would be anticipating safety.

No subject on 18:51 - Jan 30 by textbackup | Can I ask, why should we be adrift like Soton? We’ve spent £100ish million on the squad, and have a very good manager. Not sure why you’d say that? (Happy to be told why you think that tho) |
We have spent a lot but Southampton have spent circa £80m, had years of investing Premier League money and in theory came down with much more quality in their squad. We had an awful lot of catching up to do.
No subject on 09:05 - Jan 31 with 350 views | Wright1 | Erm... yes and no. Would I like to have another striker in already? Would I be happier if Burns weren't injured or had been replaced? Yes. However, I still think we will see at least 1 more come in. We've added 3 quality players already this window. We've been in so many games and could easily be god further up the table - shoulda, woulda, coulda won't keep us up but Fulham (A), Leicester (H) Bournemouth (H) and even Brentford (A) really should have resulted in more points and maybe we see those sort of games over the line when it matters most.
