Have we always had an eye on championship next year..... 18:29 - Feb 3 with 1518 views | BlacknGoldnBlue | Looking at our signings since promotion how many of the players were signed in keeping us in Premier and how many were longer time signings in building a squad to bounce back quickly and continue to build after relegation. Apart from the success of Delap you could argue that all signings were top end championship signings and I would imagine Delap was also expected to be "one for the future".

Being relegated has always been a real possibility. As defeatist as it sounds we had to plan for that to happen from the start. Anything else would have been reckless.

Have we always had an eye on championship next year..... on 19:08 - Feb 3 with 1184 views | Swansea_Blue | I think we’ve had an eye on future value possibly at the cost of other benefits (like PL experience). The policy seems to be aiming mostly for players that we think will have high resale values. It could still work of course. If we were 4 or 5 points better off (which we could easily have been if not for some stupid individual errors), we wouldn’t have this thread. So yeah maybe, but I think the focus has been on trying to stay in this league and signing players who we think will help us financially as well as on the pitch.

Have we always had an eye on championship next year..... on 19:29 - Feb 3 with 1056 views | Zx1988 | It's a thought that has crossed my mind of late as well. We're ahead of schedule, and this season was never in the master plan - we should have been consolidating in the Championship and building a stronger/deeper/more resilient squad. Perhaps there has been an element of buying talented young prospects who should improve year-on-year. If we stay up, that's a bonus, but otherwise the ones we keep hold of should develop even further in 25/26 and we'd hope to get promoted again and have another crack at staying up (perhaps with 26/27 being the original target) with a much stronger base squad.

With Delap. Not with at least half of the other signings. O'Shea yes. Greaves, not totally certain. Johnson, Clarke, Phillips, Muric. No.
Have we always had an eye on championship next year..... on 20:33 - Feb 3 with 771 views | PioneerBlue | Every player acquisition is riddled with risk. I would absolutely expect us to have had an eye beyond a scenario where we stay up. For anyone wanting to poke holes at the transfer approach or the players acquired, I’m sure there were always other players we would have liked but for we couldn’t do for whatever reason. A newly promoted club has a serious challenge spending on the right players with the right attitude versus protecting longer term value. If we stay up the rules of the game change and if we go down it’s a big summer for MA.

Probably worth throwing out there that promotion won't likely have been viewed as as nailed on as much of the fan base considered in McKenna's first full season in charge. We're well ahead of the schedule.
