14 games to go! 19 (?) points needed. Increase the support. 11:07 - Feb 4 with 2243 viewsunstableblue

See below for remaining fixtures.

I think 35 might be needed given Wolves quality.

Current PPG over season - 0.58
PPG needed in remaining fixtures - 1.36

4 wins and 5 draws perhaps for survival. A tough challenge now.

BUT - you suddenly pull off a surprise win (Villa away?!), grab another (Spurs home) - and the season would be flipped. We are in desperate need of some confidence, and to find an attacking plan that works.

I suggested 7 actions to stay up:
SEVEN actions to SAVE the season by unstableblue 3 Feb 13:25
1) Sort the goalkeeper situation - DONE
2) Keep morale and confidence going (once this truly goes there's no way back) - Coventry in cup away may help, I do think Mckenna and senior players can keep spirits up.
3) Isolate each game, treat each one as a one-off cup final and challenge - I know Mckenna always states this to be the case in how they prep - but we need to block out the league position now, siege mentality. Go at Spurs at home for example.
4) Bring back the fight, energy and press - Brentford away, Fulham away, Spurs away, Villa home, Fulham home, first half home against Liverpool, there was real aggression and a structured press on display. Its ebbed away of late.
5) Improve our attacking play - Davis is getting pinned back, Burns and Ogbene are out, Omari is giving cheap ball turnover, we're not overloading. We need to bed Philogene and Enciso into a attacking system that works, and can punish teams. Our XG is too low.
6) Settle on the right selection and system, maybe Burgess back in, Phillips for Morsy, Omari out further right always. Stick with what works. Palmer for Muric a start of that team refresh. 4 at bakc at home, 5 away. Get Axel and Davis upfield.
7) FANS need to improve and stay with the team, BIG time. We've had one TIFO all season, some games we've failed to support effectively. If we lose faith completely, this drops onto the pitch.

We are NOT relegated. But its getting close, action needed now.

To repeat I think the players AND crucially the fans need to start treating these games as cup finals, ONE OFFS, something to enjoy and celebrate, crank up the support, be remembered as the fan base that cheered to the end, a fan base that realised the amazing achievement to get into the Premier League so early. At times the PR and away atmosphere has been remarkable, at other times insufficient (one TIFO?!). Let's make PR rock on the 22nd Feb.

Interesting insight.

Our run at the end of the season looks like our best chance to get points but we do need to create more chances.

Have a feeling we are likely to need 4 pts from the last two games, Leicester away and West Ham at home.

Squeaky bum time.

If we can go into May still in the mix, we stand a chance.

BUT (and its a huge BUT), we'll have needed to have had some results, held confidence and improved as a team through Feb, March and April

Am imagining us looking all but done for come end of April, only to pick up 4 straight wins in May. Not beyond the realms if this team start to work like a cohesive unit again, better luck with injuries, and a more settled starting 11 can be established.

When tifo’s (which literally take days to produce) are hand made by volunteers (who have full time jobs and families, young kids etc) in their spare time, you (who’s done nothing of the sort, as far as I’m aware) don’t get to sit on the internet and criticise how many are made, especially when you know the reason why there’s been no more in the north stand this season (there’s been 3 others in our section anyway)

Without BA, you’d never have even seen a tifo at Portman Road.

I certainly agree in relation to criticising others.

Having said that, I'm pretty sure that our survival or otherwise is not going to depend on how many tifos we produce or brandish. The fans can help by being vocal, being positive at games, and being united. I do totally get the right to grumble and criticise, and exercise that myself, but I think at games we do need to stay united, positive and vocal.

Hate to be pessimistic but the only games I think we have a decent chance of winning are the last 2 and given how Wolves played on Sunday I think it will all be over by then.

Apologies Blue Order this was in no way a criticism of Blue Action - think you guys are terrific.

Thought the Liverpool TIFO was excellent and it was a shame the Lower North didn't embrace it, and the club are now not supporting another one in that stand.

And crucially I don't think it's just Blue Action's job to organise every one of these things.

But as a fan base its on all of us, that there hasn't been more demonstrable support at times, in such a crucial season.

It feels incredibly unlikely.

There's only two teams in the entire division with an XGD/90 of -1.00 or worse, that's us and Southampton. Leicester are nearing towards it...

For context, we're @ -1.07

The average that see's you relegated is -0.65 or worse.

We're not good enough in either box to really stay up this season, it would have to be a huge combination of improvement and luck.

Sadly I don't see us overtaking Wolves and I think we along with Leicester and Southampton will go down. Looking at the fixtures I see Wolves getting 9 points and us getting 10 but seeing as they are 3 points ahead of us that means we are minus two. Unless of course we can get some sort of run going which so far has proved impossible. I think the nail in the coffin was Saints at home. But as we know football, especially these days is no exact science where Bournemouth beat Forest 5-0 and then Forest beat Brighton 7-0 and Arsenal beat Man City 5-1.

No worries mate - I know you’re a supporter of the group, that comment just irked me a bit. All good 👍

The bigger problem for me is how we get above Wolves when they have a lovely fixture run from Feb 25th to April 26th ahead of them where looking at recent form they are likely to pick up more than enough points to cut us hugely adrift.

The reality is Wolves had it in their locker to be better they have done it before, we are ahead of time and there is nothing I see that convinces me we will get more than another 8 points if I am being dead honest.

Love the idea, but in reality singing and banging a drum for 90mins doesn’t make up for the huge gulf in quality on the pitch.

We’ll be good again... one day

This is an interesting stat. I presume it means we would need an XGD/90 around -0.15 from here in if we are to move to -0.65. Improvement at both ends of the pitch could do that?

35 points for survival would suggest you expect Wolves to move from 0.79 ppg to 1.07 and/or Leicester to move from 0.71 to 1.29. That is unless you expect Southampton to suddenly perform at 1.86.

We need to do 4 points better than Wolves and at least a point better than Leicester.

Over the past 7 matches we are doing a point better than Leicester but 3 points worse than Wolves. Over the past 14, we are doing 4 better than Leicester but 5 worse than Wolves.

The 3 clubs we have played twice so far have gained us 1 point total. For Wolves those have gained them 3 points and Leicester's 5.

Make of all that what you will.

I think we need around 31 points (15 more). 4 wins and 3 draws if we can find them from somewhere.

We've had a lot go against us in games,
ATM for me it's ultimately come down to Saturdays poor result,
I think most people would have had wolves to beat villa, local derby at home and villas woeful performances after European games,
Win and it's as you were, wolves looking over their shoulder town not going away, were in a whole heap of trouble because of Saturday alone,
I watched wolves good first half far better than us going forward, villa robbed of a goal that could have changed the result, there low on confidence as it was so early second half they may have had only a point or worse, fine margins,
I'm not sure how much more fight we have in us, fingers crossed,
