If we had a manager change 2 months ago 17:35 - Feb 22 with 3181 viewsHipsterectomy

Say a Moyes, Dyche etc and we ended up staying up, would you have taken that over going down with McKenna (who will almost certainly leave us in the summer anyway - survival or not)?

I’m not saying I want him to go, and will go on record for saying I don’t and dread when he eventually leaves, just posing the question. It’s well known we would never sack him and he was on one of the best contracts in the league.

Also obviously the other sides about to be relegated have also sacked managers and it hasn’t worked. It’s purely hypothetical to see how much people would want to stay in this league for at least another season

Parting with McKenna and playing Dyche ball for a handful of 1-0s to keep us up, would personally ruin everything we’ve built over the past few seasons, yet teams like Brighton seem that ruthless to do that to survive here (and did that).

Everton are the exception to the rule on swapping managers halfway through the season. They appointed well, with an experienced manager who is known and loved by the fan base, and respected as a manager in his own right.

Leicester, Southampton and Man Utd have not seen any serious improvement, and the jury is still out on Wolves.

I don't think we would have found a manager to do any better than KMcK has done this season, and given his connection to the the players, the ethos, team spirit, etc, there's no way I would want another manager at the helm, unless any of those positives change or Kieran decides to leave.

It isn't really broken, so to speak, so we shouldn't fix it. We simply aren't ready to challenge competitively in the PL this season.

Plus having KM is a magnet for attracting the best young & upcoming players, so in a sense increases our budget.

His rep for coaching & bringing out the best in all players, even the seasoned pros in their 30s. also more than balances out the old 'who'd want to join that "little" club out in the sticks' way of thinking.

If there is one thing I hate more than the circus the EPL has become, it’s the attitude to managers.

Dumping KmK is NOT the Town way. Sir Bobby Robson struggled in his first TWO full seasons, and we almost got relegated from Div 1 in both of those. What he was building did not become evident until the 4th full season, and the rest is history.

We have stuck by our managers in the past, and it has paid dividends. Maybe KmK will not show the same loyalty (maybe he will if building a project and creating a legacy is what he values), but the club and fans should stick by him and give him that chance. Even if we have to bounce between the EPL & Championship once or twice whilst building.

We can’t stop him if HE decides to leave, but the process should not be initiated by the club, or fans clambering for a change.

There’ll be less Saturday 3pm games next season if we go down….

Perhaps. They might be at least half way entertaining to watch though.

I've said it before but under McKenna I genuinely believe we have made progress as a club and a squad every year including this one. This squad is an absolute powerhouse in the championship. The team we came up with were a fantastic group that McKenna got every last drop from and some fortune along the way (which was earned).

One person coming in and getting some short term success wouldn't make me swap McKenna. If he is here next season it's going to be some season! I do think it's 50/50 at absolute best. I think some really good sides will want him in the summer so it will depend if they are out of a manager/making a change.

Is that just because we're losing?

Today was an entertaining game.

I’ve been watching Town for over 50 years and KM rates very high IMO and has achieved so much in so little time. Clearly previous entries would like him too stay as I would too and hope he does. The learning curve in the Premiership is very apparent as emphasised by the promoted teams this season and last. I believe we were promoted too early but obviously good enough to do so. Clubs have been promoted, relegated and returned a season or so later stronger and better equipped - Bournemouth comes to mind.
