1. Many games this season the right back area has been exploited by opposition left wingers. Its not all about the right back its about that Leif presses forward from left back and the team shuffles to more like there centre backs. Then the right of those three just cant get tight enough on the winger in time. It's not all about Godfrey having a bad game, it's about it being really hard for him to tackle a winger in full flight. Like it has been for others playing that position this year. And Godfrey was fractions from blocking the cross for the first goal.

2. Phillips played well. More like what we expected. Getting him in form for his inevitable Leeds move.

3. The team played well. We just weren't clinical in the chances we made. But much better than the Man City defeat for example and even the Southampton performance.

4. Phillogene played ok. He needs time. There was some good stuff mixed in there. He confident on the ball and in time will get more effective.

5. Have we bought too many players that need development rather than being PL ready - probably yes. Mick Mills is right in that our reserve side is probably going to be as good as our first team. And that we would have been better getting 4 or 5 PL ready players. But in reality who would they have been and would they have come?

Newly promoted sides aren't going to be signing established Prem quality players on permanent deals, generally speaking. They can't afford them and those kinds of players also have better options than jumping into a relegation scrap. We were always going to be signing players with Prem potential and a couple of quality loans to bolster that.

I think you're being a bit kind on Godfrey. I don't like hammering our players but that first half performance from him was poor, he looked completely lost. He didn't position himself to cut out the pass or to get tight to Son,.meaning Son got the ball in acres one on one with him and he couldn't get close to stopping him. It was poor defending. That said, we could do better with defending it after the initial mistake by Godfrey as well.

The right back thing kind of shows the level really - in Johnson and Godfrey we’ve probably shopped at the very top of our range for that position (and maybe even a bit above it) and they’re still not good enough to play games without causing us issues.

We had Axel, Clarke and Burns for that spot. Its been a problem all season. Either of those three would have fared better than Godfrey yesterday imo. Godfrey looks like a back up CB at best.

I think regarding Godfrey it was more a reflection that Ive seen numerous left wingers this season do that against us. They stick a quality player out wide knowing we defend narrow and then they are just in acres of space running at him. I cant deny he didn't then cover himself in glory but he's put in a tough spot to start with. Maybe Danny Murphy is right and a back five would have allowed the wing back to sit on Son.

But that seems to have killed us recently going forward. So I don't blame McKenna for having a back 4.

Glad it's not just me about the right back issue. Please KM sort this out for next season.

I'd have been tempted to play Johnson ahead of Philogene yesterday to give us a bit more cover on that side. I can see the logic in wanting to press Spurs high and exploit the spaces they leave but we were horribly exposed down that side. Axel plays that hybrid RB/RCB role really well, Clarke was okay in that role in the Championship, but at this level, when Axel isn't playing the right side looks really weak.

The whole balance of the team leans towards getting Leif into space though? If you correct that then you don't have attacking width on the left and you lose attacking emphasis down that flank.

I don't think Godfrey covered himself in glory yesterday though. On the replay of the first goal, O'Shea is literally pushing him into position and he's still coming further inside.

I'd dispute the argument a back three kills us going forwards. We hardly looked a threat playing with a back four against Everton, Palace, Forest. One of our best, if not best, xGs came at Fulham when we played with a three.

I don't think it helps that, for me, we don't play the right shape or personnel ahead of the three though. Having Phillips and Cajuste as a unit with Hutchinson and Broadhead ahead would, IMO, improve our chance further. That's never happened.

The back 5 works well and worked well for us. Our issue was the transition when we got the ball. We just needed to work on that. Not throw in the towel on that set up

the recruitment is a result of a ridiculous overblown confidence in the 'genius' coaching abilities if McKenna. Fabulous coach and irreplaceable of-course but not superhuman.

I think that is mainly due to who we have played in front of the back three. Some of that is down to availability. I think Ogbene - Phillips - Cajuste - Davis (Townsend) with two from Enciso, Hutchinson and Szmodics would really help with the transition from back to front.

Obviously we're missing Ogbene, and Burns, so would have to rely on either Johnson, who has struggled defensively, or Tuanzebe, who doesn't offer as much going forward. I think Broadhead would do a job in the ten position in the absence of Enciso, and with Szmodics coming back from injury.

I think recruitment, for the most part, was done on possible future profit first and foremost, rather than how they would benefit us this season.

Obviously, the hope was that more would come and have an impact akin to Delap, but it hasn't worked out that way.
