Ben Johnson excellent last night (n/t) on 08:22 - Mar 4 with 2274 views | cordonblue | I thought it didn’t work so well in the first half, few occasions he needed to run into the space to give us an option going forward. Second half came out really positive and gave us a better outlet, one of his best halves.
Ben Johnson excellent last night (n/t) on 08:27 - Mar 4 with 2245 views | Herbivore | He's good on the ball, he hits a cracking cross field pass, and defensively he was largely very good as well. I say largely as him inexplicably being 2 yards behind his defensive colleagues played Yates onside for their equaliser.

Ben Johnson excellent last night (n/t) on 08:47 - Mar 4 with 2146 views | Scuzzer | I wouldn't say excellent. Probably his best game for us. But he has a frustrating habit of allowing the attacker to cut in on the inside of him. A basic rule of defending is not to allow that. Show them down the line.

Ben Johnson excellent last night (n/t) on 08:51 - Mar 4 with 2107 views | Bugs | That cross field ball he has in his locker can certainly be a powerful weapon. But I would like to see it a little more often.
Ben Johnson excellent last night (n/t) on 09:04 - Mar 4 with 2029 views | TrumptonBlue | Agree, thought he did well. It would be interesting to see how he gets on if he gets a run in the side. He's only once started consecutive games, and even on that occasion (Leicester H, Tottenham A), it was in different positions.

I think he really struggled when he played in the Axel role but he's certainly not the only one to have had problems there. Much prefer him in the wingback role where he's not left defending one v one so often

Yes, that sums it up. That's why I'm still not quite sold on him, the inconsistencies, and he's not quick enough to track back if he's the last man. He has a good touch and good ideas, and he took his penalty well.

Given Forest's ability on the counter-attack, I think the plan was to keep things solid in the first half and get there on level terms. [Post edited 4 Mar 9:41]

Ben Johnson excellent last night (n/t) on 10:15 - Mar 4 with 1683 views | gringoblue | He dropped way too deep for their equaliser, two yards behind the rest of our back line, and played Yates onside.

Absolutely this. I thought he didn't offer enough in the first half. I think I commented how much we were missing Burns, but in the second he was much better, and we made a lot more progress up that side.

I think OShea behind Yates was also playing him onside - doesnt mean that Johnson was not at fault, but him being there was not the reason that Forest scored

Is that definitely correct? Looked tight, but Johnson, who can look directly along that line, dropped so ridiculously deep and definitely played them on. FWIW I think he's been a complete flop, positionally terrible, not good going forward, not good defensively, not particularly quick to recover from his bad positioning.

It was marginal I think. No doubt that if Johnson had not been there, I think we would have seen how quickly the automated offside VAR worked - and I suspect we would have had a re-run of the Bournemouth check

Johnson has a long way to go to convince he's good enough, even as cover in the PL. Played Yates on for their equaliser due to his ball-watching. He's fine on the ball, but if he's going to play anywhere, it should be in the middle. Good short passer. Problem is, he has zero pace. It's like he's running on a treadmill. You can get away with no pace in the middle, but you must have it out wide (defensively at least). West Ham, Bournemouth, etc wingers have torn him to shreds. Godfrey's no better, but Johnson's ahead of him because he's decent on the ball. I think we're in deep trouble defensively on the right now. To lose Ogbene is unfortunate. To also lose Burns is disastrous. To furthermore lose Tuanzebe is ruinous. We should recall Harry Clarke. [Post edited 4 Mar 14:27]
