I know this is a bit ‘3 cheers for the Mexicans’ 11:34 - Mar 10 with 3190 views | textbackup | But what single opposition player have you seen this season and just gone ‘wow’ I think the stand out for me was the Brighton number 20, in the game at their place. 4/5/6 times he picked the ball up and just went. Felt there was no chance of stopping him (yet ironically we nearly nicked that with the Delap shot!) He probably stands out as it’s something we lack, albeit Cajuste does atleast try it.

De Bruyne was outstanding, the guy is ghost in the way he glides around creating space for himself. Any youngster should just watch him in isolation, not many complete football, but KDB is not far off it.

Newcastle were bang in form, and those 2 were frighteningly good. Many time capped Italy and Brazil internationals, probably in or close to the peak years of their careers. Top tier. |
Agree. Those two were outstanding. With Isak up front, oh dear. Close to those two - Salah. Didn’t do a huge amount first half but his strength, control, awareness in the second. He just ran away from our lads. De Bruyne too. Ok he might not be the player he once was but he quietly took us to the cleaners. Drifted into the games, never gave the ball away, slid the passes in. What a player. Beyond them, the general level the Premier League players operate at has surprised me. Big, powerful, skilful and astonishing fitness. Most games our players have had two or three round them in a second. The opposition? Much more time and space. [Post edited 10 Mar 17:21]

The base level of physicality really is insane. Someone like Mitoma who I just saw as a fairly small, skillful winger winning the ball back with strength/aggression. The way teams pick up loose balls and secure possession so consistently as well. That stood out when we played Bristol Rovers, all of a sudden the ball is pinging around all over the place.

Another vote for those two from me. Two players who would probably cost around £100m in today's market, and a game that brutally exposed our limitations.
