I'm now in my second major cold of 2025 and both of them are over 3 weeks in duration. Tight throat, nasty cough, sinus issues. My right eye looks like I've been hit as its blacker than the other and feels tender. People we know have the same symptoms.
I left it a while last time and was treated for a chest infection. This time I saw a GP sooner but my chest sounded OK to him and wasn't treated. No mention of covid but I haven’t tested. Anyone else noticed colds are getting stronger or am I getting old? |  |

I had two bouts of pneumonia in 4 months. One in August and one in early January and ended up in hospital for a couple of days with both.
Never had it before, not really old (40s) and generally fit and well.
I remember initially the GP said he'd had a cold that he called the 3-week cold and it presented like a chest infection and was really difficult to shake off. |  | | |

What I’m reading from medical professionals and statisticians on sm generally is that repeated Covid infections can weaken people’s immune systems generally.

The cough was debilitating - both exercise and conversation-wise.
Kinda concerned that my rough time with Covid in '22 has left me with some form a weakness as this is the 3rd such instance cough-wise since. |  |

Similar to you regarding your last paragraph. I was hospitalised with glandular fever when at uni it did some serious damage it seems. Alongside Covid a few times from work and having small kids, it makes me extra paranoid every sniffle.
A lot of people up here having Covid symptoms and testing negative so I wonder if it’s weaker strains going about or just the overlaps with other common stuff. |  |

Yes. I’ve had some bug since late October & can’t shake it off. Had flu jab plus pneumococcal jab, but they seem ineffective. It starts with a bout of sneezing & goes from there, brings on a constant cough & blocked sinus. Went to the doctor last week, finally got an appointment. They’re going to check for asbestosis when I get back. I’m currently in Spain. |  | | |

Yes, since just after New year I had this low-key cold where I could do everything but just felt a bit coldy. Last couple of weeks it's really ground me down and got worse. The sinuses took the brunt of it. I've gone healthy fruit, veg, smoothie and multivitamins crazy which seems to be helping. |  | | |

Over the winter, I've only had a mild cold, lasting five days, with no sore throat.
Having turned 65, I got the Covid and flu vaccines, and in crowded places (such as the Tube), I cover my face either by pulling up my snood over my face (it is winter after all), or I cover my face with my hand in a way which makes me look as if I'm contemplating things. [Post edited 10 Mar 17:55]

Had an absolute shocker of a cold middle of January, a week of feeling absolutely awful, including 2 days in bed, which then for another week a chest infection which I needed antibiotic's for (Probably only my 5th lot ever). Genuinely worst thing I think I've ever had and I'm over 50.
Then two weeks later, a stinker of a head cold, which I'm still suffering from in the form of sinus problems.

Flu-like symptoms but felt OK.
No symptoms but felt proper out of sorts with no energy.
100 day cough and the latest cold brought sinus issues for the last 2 weeks.

Cutting out all dairy products for 5 weeks minimum (GP's recommendation) sorted my sinus problems completely (but it didn't work till the 5th week). Turned out that allergy to dairy was also causing me massive gut issues (ulceraive colitis).
That kind of allergy causes a build up of mucous, so it might be worth you trying the same exclusion diet - ie no dairy for 5 weeks (unless you're already vegan of course). | |

Have really struggled with colds and flu this winter. 4/5 different bugs with slightly different symptoms.
Every time I think I'm out of it I come down again.
Only the last 3/4 weeks have I felt OK.
