Greaves getting pelters and rightly so but 15:57 - Mar 15 with 4716 viewsFromReuserWithLove

let's not ignore Davis offering him zero protection again and Woolf totally fluffing that first contact for their second. The defending has been criminal this season and McKenna has really struggled with finding a balance. We're so far of it and have been getting worse despite the nonsense that we're improving.

Just marked out of the game. He doesn't have the ability to go past the defender, hasn't really got a footballing brain when it comes to linking up with team mates.

But some of that is the other players not giving him the correct pass. 4 times I counted in the first half, where he made an excellent run, but the other players didn't play the ball over the top, which forces him back.

Cajuste had an excellent game, but you need the midfield to occasionally try something different. Anderson isn't known for his long ball passing, but yesterday, he turned a couple of times and immediately when long looking for the runner. OK, Forest players are brimming with confidence.

Last season, players were trying that. I remember one game last season where Broadhead was looking in one direction but played it long in the opposite direction, fully confident Davis would be there, and he was.

It's very unusual for a centre back to be taken off at halftime.

Did McKenna give any explanation? Or was it too obvious?

Completely agree about Davis, but can only assume he is so far up field (and therefore out of position) under instruction from the manager.

You then have to look at the manager of why this continues week after week. We can all see it, pundits see it, opposition see it and target it...

He's clearly being told to get forward and overload the left. He was one of the 55 spoken to by Tuchel so clearly he's not seen as shocking.

We are perhaps not good enough to play with him playing that way though.

Davis is an excellent player. Great engine, good vision, unselfish, good pace. An excellent attacking left-back / wing back. And he has defended pretty well, mostly, against world-class players.

He's a PL level player, and I'm not surprised he's close to international level.

But this season he is playing in a team that is struggling, in a defence that chops and changes, against great players. So of course it is harder for him to shine like previously.

This post is way too sensible...

He is a disaster and we should sell him

Every team knows that our system but him and greaves are so out of sorts and don't communicate most teams don't care let them get on with it,
We had acres of space in the left yesterday but didn't capitalize because of confidence I'd say, when greaves did get the ball to Davis he played it back to a defender he's having a shocking season very much caught out,
Our right was compressed by forest they obviously thought omari and Jaden would be more of a threat no space down there what so ever,
It won't happen but Townsend needs to start proper defender,
It would makes us a more solid unit and give us more freedom going forward,
I appreciate the standard is so much higher,

Last season he also had Mass and Burgess covering him when he went forward and the players exploiting the space he left weren't as ruthless at exploiting it. This season, Greaves and Cajuste haven't quite got to grips with covering that space as effectively and it gets exploited by better players. Davis can't be everywhere and his role in the side is to provide width and an outlet as much as anything else. If people think he can do that and always be 20 yards deeper covering the counter they aren't being remotely realistic.

According to Phil, McKenna said it was 'tactical'.

Just levels.

Very few have looked like they belong at this level; Palmer, O’Shea, Cajuste & Delap.

The rest have looked out of their depth really, no shame in it, but there are levels to the game.

Palmer is still a question mark for me. He doesn’t have presence at corners, or on crosses. This puts a lot of pressure on defenders.

Woolfenden looked like he's belonged for the most part this season. Yesterday was definitely a poor game from him, but the same could be said of everyone. Tuanzebe and, to a lesser extent, Hutchinson have shown flashes as well. Ogbene and Szmodics may have had a chance to make an impression had they not picked up injuries.

Greaves also looked pretty decent pre injury as well. Whether he's not fully fit, I'm not sure, but he hasn't looked right since his return.

The issue is consistencty, though. The top players keep to the required level for longer.

Only one, really.

1) league table (points, goal difference)
2) head-to-head performance, statistical and visual
3) Opta's power rankings*
4) the xG tables you have issue with
5) general opinion among pundits

Negativity bias must be impacting your analysis if you only see one argument.

But if he is being told to do that, which is fine imo, why doesn't he do that more often.

There were loads of times he had nobody in front of him a space to run into, and he gets the ball and his first choice is to stop, pass back to Woolfie.

He doesn't run at players anymore, and yeah he then gets caught out of position, which again is fine if your left centre back/sweeper in midfield pick up the danger moves, which we don't seem to do either.

He had a shocker yesterday for sure, there was more than one pass he made wasn't even directed at another town player, he was linking up with Johnny X

Do you think it's possible that 8 defeats in 9 games might have knocked the players' confidence and is impacting their decision-making?
