Interesting that first half they played everything down their left/our right and we shut them out with great displays by Tuanzabe and Johnson. Then second half, from the off they pursued our left side and got their reward immediately making Leif looking lost as he has done all season. As soon as he was replaced by Townsend we looked so much more solid and balanced in defence. He has to be our first choice left back going forward.
Anyhow, chuffed to bits with that display and the lads should be too. I thought Johnson and Palmer were both superb today. |  | | |  |

Clearly many of you don’t know a thing about defending. Why do you think he was hauled off second half by McKenna ? Because Chelsea had identified that we had nothing defensively on our left side.
He’ll be back to his best next season because the Championship is his level right now. He wouldn’t get a game at any other club in the Prem. | | | |

As the attacker approached Burgess, you could see him gesturing behind his back for someone to cover behind him. I think CB knew he was done for pace. No one moved quickly enough to cover, so that may have been what CB was annoyed about. | | | |

Oh and I wasn’t blaming Leif for that goal at all. Just merely pointing out that clearly we are weaker defensively on our left side due to Davis’ positional sense when it comes to defending. He’s fantastic going forward (in league 1 and the championship), but has massive frailties as a left back. As soon as Townsend came on we were a lot more secure and in fact Chelsea pursued the other wing again a lot more. I don’t blame anyone for either goal today but clearly with Townsend in the side we are much more solid defensively. | | | |

I don’t think Axel had a particularly good game today and Chelsea attempted one dribble down the left hand side today which was Madueke rinsing Burgess to assist the own goal (scored by Axel).
Davis did nothing wrong to be called out individually for anything to do with either the goal or any defensive frailty today (although I think McKenna was pretty pissed for the way he gave away possession before the sub for Townsend). |  | | |
