As we look almost certain to be relegated to the Championship, will this have an effect on the Town's aspirations to have the academy upgraded to level 1?

No, won't change that.

Talking of which, we rarely hear of academy products blossoming into the next big thing knocking on the door of the first team these days. Our rapid rise up the divisions probably has a lot to do with that, but strange we never hear of exciting youngsters anymore.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Marcus Evans greatest legacy. Effectively having to rebuild the academy from scratch.

And we'll probably be seeing the 'fruits' of that for a good few years still. Those who are now reaching the sort of age where they should be challenging for the first team will have already been with the club for 10-15 years in some cases.

In terms of picking up decent kids when they're 7/8, we won't see the first fruits of any improvements to the academy this side of 2030-2035.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

Theyre being quietly nurtured and prepared to emerge from their chrysalis in the next couple of years, whereupon 3-4 young Blue Guns will start to be seen being drip fed into the squad.....

Think the academy in the latter Marcus Evans era actually performed pretty well for the level of investment - FA Youth Cup semi-final, players like Humphreys, Baggott, Tawanda Chirewa and Liam Gibbs coming through from that team - it's probably slipped back a bit since the takeover before now starting to move forward again.

No I haven't forgotten him, I said "rarely" - just thought him (and Baggott) went without saying.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Some of the results have been embarrassing this year. Our u16s lost 9-1 to Cardiff - and Cardiff don’t have any young Ramseys in that team. It’s going to be a while before we create some top championship/ premier league players sadly.

I think an element of that is so many U21s players being out on loan and players having to step up a level and it impacting levels below. Having said that, I know a lot of U16s are being released.

The academy lost a lot of its staff after the takeover - people like Kieron Dyer, Adem Atay, Sam Darlow and Scott Mitchell, who moved on to cat one academies or to first-team jobs - and I think it's taking time to recover and re-establish.

Is it fair to say that the Academy wasn’t viewed as an immediate priority by the then new owners etc. But now, like the training ground, is now under greater scrutiny with the ultimate aim of being Grade 1?

Is it true we've already had the audit and are Cat 1 for next season, that's what I've heard

I think there was an element of that, also a bit of feeling the staff were part of the 'old club', so to speak, and I don't think they were made to feel particularly wanted.

Dean Wright didn't work out as an academy head, from what I've been told, but Dmitri Halajko is now moving things forward and there was obviously something of a volte-face regarding moving to cat one, which I assume was driven by the ownership.

Not heard that, although Mark Ashton, if I remember rightly, said part of the audit had successfully taken place. May well have progressed further, although I would guess that would be announced with something of a fanfare were that to be the case.
