Unfortunately, relegation confirmed this evening.

Brave effort.

Disappointed of course, but who are your contenders for Supporter's Player of the Season ?

I was a match official on their visit to South Shields.
Canny set of Lads and had a brief chat with their mgr about Ipswich after the game.

Its shame as it looked like had the season started in Jan they may have stayed up.

I follow them on Twitter from a far as went to uni with Marcus and it seems they had a similar season to us in some respects - in plenty of games but couldn’t quite translate to points.

Non-league is funny as you want to progress however I’m not sure how you could say getting promoted to National League North is much of a reward given the serious levels of commitment required.

My wife’s cousin is involved with a Step 5 club in a different region and they’re questioning whether they really want to progress much higher given the wealth of extra commitment required both time wise and financially.

Really good effort, but I struggle to see how the club could afford the league. Just about bankrupted Lowestoft Town a few years ago!!

Totally agree. Something is very wrong with the non league pyramid when Needham or Lowestoft have to play in the Conference North, and travel to midweek away games in far North East, far North West, etc. Not sure how to fix it though!

East/West split instead of North/South?

I can think of a few clubs that still wouldn't help though.

Possibly do it on a season-by-season basis? After league issues have been rectified, see what clubs will be in the N/S divisions and then rearrange according to overall mileage.

So if Needham Market had finished mid table in the North league they could still play in the South League the following season.

Not sure whether I’m explaining it properly but in my head it kinda makes sense.

Step 5 should really have a Central division really to try and make it a bit easier for clubs as the step up and distances for clubs like Needham are just ridiculous

Haven't been able to get to many games but will be going to the Easter Monday game against Kings Lynn.

I think this is the case as it is, difficulty is more money has gone in to London and that includes London clubs - so at that level so many teams in and around London that the centre has moved down

It would be good to link it to the real North/South which is basically from Lincoln to Bristol and how far below that you are

Let's be honest, another mammoth challenge at Needham's level is the talent pool. While many Midlands/Northern clubs have big cities like Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester to tap into, there's a finite crop of Step 2-ready players in East Anglia.

They've done well to loan some players from North London/Herts area, but it's not an easy assignment by any means.

There’s also fewer clubs to take those players. Needham and Sudbury’s ‘academies’ have made some really good players who have kicked on to play in the football league, Newmarket recently had a player picked up by Wycombe, there’s a lad at Felixstowe with several football league clubs after him - the talent is there

A couple of years ago I remember leaving Spennymoor at 10.45 at night after an evening game there. Kings Lynn were the opponents and I thought Wow that's some trek at that time of night.

Like any level of football I am afraid budget is everything.

In terms of geography I think the National league should be fed by 3 divisions. With 16 teams in each. 3 divisional winners go up with a play off winner from the 3 divisions.
Most teams in National North and South are reluctant to go up. You need to be well funded to take on the burden of all the extra travel at National level.

There are players on £2k a week in that league, bonkers really

A few of those lads were previously with Town
