Good.

The sooner they can be moved out of overpriced, overcrowded, unsuitable hotels, and into properties designed for day-to-day living, the better.

They're seriously considering a policy of housing people in houses! What harebrained scheme will they think of next?!?

I’m sure you will welcome them into your street with open arms👍
Don’t complain though when the house for sale down the road gets sold and turned into an HMO and the value of your house drops!
I’m sure the people on housing lists and can’t afford to rent these houses are going to be chuffed as well.
Still if it gives you all a warm fuzzy feeling so be it😀

Imagine if we could look after 'our own' AND asylum seekers. Unfortunately it would need a rich country to do such a thing.

In the 1980s Margaret Thatcher's Government passed a law that forced Councils to sell their housing stock to tenants at significantly below market value.

The law also stated that the revenue raised had to sit in a ring fenced account, and couldn't be spent by those Councils on new housing stock.

That is the root of the housing crisis today, why there aren't enough houses, and why house price inflation means young people can't get on the housing ladder.

40 years of Councils building houses, getting young individuals, couples and families decent housing, allowing them to buy it when they qualified, and then reinvesting the proceeds in more housing, would have created a very different Britain.

Your house would be worth a lot less than it is now, mind, so I guess, if that is your primary test for any Government policy, then you wouldn't approve.

I would, absolutely. The more cultural diversity on the estate the better.

As for house prices, who gives a toss. My house is a place to live, not an investment.

you might think differently if you had 4 offspring trying to get onto the housing ladder. Cheaper prices would be rather handy.

Very good now what has that got to do with Serco and their intentions?

Your opposition to this policy was expressed in terms of 1) house prices being lowered and 2) that there is a shortage of affordable housing and people are on waiting lists.

I explained why there is a shortage of affordable housing and people are on waiting lists, and also why house prices being lower is a good thing for many.

As long as ordinary people keep getting encouraged to turn on each other, or anyone who is different to them, the gap between us and the billionaires will continue to grow.

Refugees aren't the reason for a shortage of affordable housing in the UK.

You tend to find that those who say "we should look after our own" mean nobody else apart from themselves.

Look at the grief Marcus Rashford got a couple of years ago.

I dont see why peop!e are being encouraged to turn against one another. Or on any body different from them if by that you mean those of a different country of origin.

You are right that Thatcher sold off all the council housing cheaply.

But governments of both colours have had 40 years to change that and have 'nt.

But be under no doubt, the imposition of gross numbers of immigration have seriously effected house prices where I live. B&Bs, Air B&Bs, Hotels and now rental stock where I live are now being taken, by the Govt, for "refugees".
Whether they are refugees or not.

House prices face two opposing forces.
One, scarecity, rising.
Two, the increase in wall leaners, strong cider drinkers and crime pushing it down.
This is the reality of where we are.

You state clearly that the problem is, governments haven't built enough houses. You then blame immigrants for affecting house prices, although I think you're suggesting that immigrants are forcing prices down because nobody wants to live near them?

Actually I'm not sure what you're trying to say.

I don't know where you live but B&Bs have been used to house 'British' homeless people for years, it's nothing new. Alcoholism, unsocial behaviour and crime have also blighted areas, where poverty rates are high, for years.
