I hope we keep Broady in the summer (n/t) on 12:00 - May 7 by Matt_Netherlands | What do people realistically expect to get for him? In terms of calibre / ability he’s probably similar to Scott Twine and Morgan Whittaker who left for £3m and £5m respectively last summer. As soon as the season is over, player values will drop. I love Broadhead don’t get me wrong, but £3-5m is realistic. |

Because our entire squad will be championship players, not PL players.

We've already been relegated, though. I don't see why their values change when the season's over. It's interesting that initially you said £3m and then when people pushed back you've changed it to £3m-£5m. You've almost doubled it (potentially) in an instant, which makes me think even you've realised you went in too low initially. Also, we don't need to sell. So I think if £3m were the offer we'd be better off keeping him at that price. If we didn't already have him you'd want to buy him at £3m!

Hopefully Philogene steps it on next season like he did the season he tore it up with Hull.....but still, I love Broady.

Nah I stick by £3m being the sort of figure we will / would get for him. I think lots of us think he should’ve played more, but he’s been a bit part player in a relegated team. You make a fair point that if we didn’t have him you’d spend more than £3m trying to sign someone like him, but I feel like the writing may be on the wall for him sadly.

You say the writing may be on the wall but don't give any reason why. You've also not answered why players values suddenly drop when the season's over, as opposed to now when they're already relegated. Being a bit part player is, for a large part, due to being injured. He's looked to me like he can hold his own in the Prem when he's played, and I don't think players like that go for £3m these days (unless the club needs to sell, which we don't).

Two, perhaps three, players ahead of him in that position anyway - he may fancy a new challenge where he'll be a bit further up the pecking order.

I hope we keep Broady in the summer (n/t) on 17:33 - May 7 with 511 views | Parky | He should be staying in my opinion, his numbers for us in the Championship last time round are actually really good. I think we’ve all said he should have played more for us this season. That said, he’ll be entering the final year of his contract next season, so I can definitely see the club cashing in this summer. I’d guess somewhere like Birmingham, who will have a bit of money to spend. It’ll be a sad day when it happens. [Post edited 7 May 17:37]

Swap Hutch for Ogbene who else is leaving then?

I’m not looking to get rid of him - he’s a decent squad player, but there are many starters ahead of him with much more potential. He’s one that I see moving on and adding to our war chest to improve the squad.

I hope we keep Broady in the summer (n/t) on 12:00 - May 7 by TractorFrog | From games they started: Broadhead, 7 points from 6 games. Clarke, 2 points from 11 games. Philogene, 0 points from 5 games. This is very oversimplified and Clarke and Philogene are more proven at championship level, but I think Broadhead has so far been a much better player than those two. Also, while less relevant as they had different teams and different managers last season, I do think it is worth noting that Nathan Broadhead was the top scorer for the team that finished second in the championship last season, while Jaden Philogene came 7th and Jack Clarke 16th. |
The stats based on starts is interesting - arguably our best results happened when those who came on as subs had a positive impact - or at least we were not relatively disadvantaged by subs coming on - the whole “points lost from a winning position” argument. I have not done the analysis but surely credit must be given to Clarke (for instance) for coming on at Bournemouth, Spurs and Fulham - and you should probably also exclude those games where he gets hooked for a defender when we go down to 10. Nothing conclusive in all that, but I think it is worth throwing into the mix

His ability for a quick touch and finish, hardly any back lift, pin point, quality player.

And Clarke's quality corner for the Wolves winner. Clarke has no goals and 4 assists in 1050 minutes. Broadhead has 1 goal and no assists in 600 minutes. I hope we keep Broady too because he's quality, on top of the memories built over the past two+ years, and his song of course, but I also think the difference in PPG starts between these two shows the limitation of that data. I remember Broadhead's impact in the Bournemouth win. I don't remember key contributions in the win against Chelsea or draw against Fulham; Delap and Hutchinson were electric those days. I remember his missed opportunities against Brighton and that ended his short run in the starting lineup. He was then back for the Southampton loss, when everyone fell short, and that disappointment saw him impacting from the bench for another month.

I don't think £3m gets a just turned 27 year old Welsh international like Broady out of a club like Southampton or Leicester, and nor should it from us. We're not selling from a position of financial distress and I would think £5m is closer to the mark. The fact he's only got 1 year left on his contract is potentially a factor though, I think a decision will be made 1 way or another this summer. There's a bit of work to do on that front, with Axel and Burgess expiring this summer, and Broadhead, Chaplin, Taylor and Burns next summer. I wouldn't have thought we would be too concerned about most of the rest (Luongo (25) / Morsy (26) / Townsend (26) etc) right now.
