Great work on the economy from labour.

I'm sure onceablue will be here to talk about it soon. Any moment now.

And a landmark trade deal with India, and looks like we're the first to be agreed with the US, on what appears to be largely good terms for us - if the below is to be believed.

Re US/Uk Trade Deal according to the parties involved only possible because of Brexit, be interesting how that aspect is commented upon.

Wouldn’t have been able to do the India deal either but hay ho some one will be along to tell us how bad both deals are and the EU could have got us a better one.

We've been losing billions for years since leaving the EU. It's been an unmitigated disaster, as many predicted it would. These deals might be great but they don't make up for all that we've lost due to Brexit.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

It won’t be as good as a free trade deal with our biggest and closest market, but it’s better then zilch that the last lot came up with.

Valid point, thus we can see why they were not re-elected along with many other failures.

Labour wouldn't know how to do great work on the economy. Two pretty lukewarm deals with India and America where workers of India can come over here and pay no N.I. for three years whilst companies here are having to pay higher N.I. and wages meaning prices rise and interest rates don't get cut as quickly because it all adds to inflation. Where we allow more US goods in so that they charge us less for exporting to them. Allowing US beef to be imported as part of the deal. Another kick in the gonads for UK farmers.
No I'm not saying the Tories did any better, in fact they made a right horlicks of most things.
What is needed is for any government to make it worthwhile for start ups of new businesses and stop selling vital industries to foreign companies and getting utilities back in the hands of the government.
Abandoning this net zero costing UK consumers hundreds, maybe thousands more.

The EU and India are currently finalising the small print of a trade deal between themselves- won’t have to wait long to ascertain whether the UK or the EU have a better deal with India.

Think you’ve forgotten who was in power then, as well as the then cabinet’s position on brexit.

Apart from the present labour government all post-Brexit governments have been dominated by Brexiters.

But to be fair to them, if a policy is fundamentally flawed, no matter who voted for it, it’s going to be bad.

Labour have very little to do with bringing down interest rates, so assume a tongue in cheek comment. About as accurate as Sunak’s claim to have brought inflation down as wholesale commodity prices fell.

Fortunately our politicians have their hands away from the levers of monetary policy. Hence Trump’s attacks on the Fed and threats to take control. See also BoE working against Truss. Populists would love to have direct oversight so they can claim credit for interest rate drops even when it’s dangerous to do so. Monetary policy would be guided by dogma over pragmatism.

Like Mrs May was. Brexit is Brexit she said.
Meaning she was trying to remain. Her deal with the EU was a betrayal of Britain.
What a lying toad.

Anyone with an once of common sense or economic knowledge knew that that only thing that was going to happen was that all of us apart from a very small minority were going to get poorer by quite a bit.

There really was no other outcome.

Yes, for clarity it was tongue in cheek.

As per your comments, politicians have limited impact (truss aside!) on stuff like interest rates, in the short term anyway.

Just thought it would be nice to provide a little balance as poor Rachel gets blamed for everything.

WTF Dolly???

That's one of the main arguments for Brexit.

Whilst in EU it was not permitted to do individual trade deals with other countries as The EU is The EU - alternate deals were verboten.

Sheesh!

What are you on about the vote was to leave the EU or have you forgotten that? IF all politicians had worked to get a decent BREXIT instead of having a sulk and working against the vote at every opportunity the EU wouldn’t have smelt weakness and negotiated differently!

Badenoch states it is a bad deal, that can be evaluated in the course of time, once there is more clarity on the fine print and in time the tangible results.

The aspect re Brexit refers to remarks by Donald Trump, I envisage he played a significant part in the trade agreement with the assistance of his colleagues.

We did leave the EU. It was always going to be terrible. What is this mythical Brexit you wanted exactly? One where we keep all the benefits of being in the EU?!
What is it exactly that we should've negotiated differently?
