Congratulations to Palace & their fans on 22:45 - May 17 by JakeITFC | I am happy Palace won but it is kind of relevant because VAR has caused minutes of delay and caused an in stadium delay/annoyance (I had a good friend there today as a neutral who has told me how clueless they were to both the potential red card and penalty checks) and in my opinion still ended up with the wrong decision. |
I swear there has been multiple major international tournaments where VAR seems to have a lot less Impact/delay and negativity surrounding it than PL or cup finals in England.

Congratulations to Palace & their fans on 23:05 - May 17 by Joey_Joe_Joe_Junior | I agree and I’ll give an example Today’s penalty - I think it’s fair to stick with call if you’re asking for clear and obvious. However, I think if it’s purely yes or no, then it should be reversed. Now Jack Clarke against Everton, I’m fine with it being reversed if you’re saying yes or no because I don’t really think that was a penalty but it still could be argued either way. However. They decided that one was clear and obvious. Where’s the threshold? It’s all still super subjective! |
Indeed, and the one Szmodics gave away at Forest was little different and that wasn't overruled in the same way. The one against Harry Clarke at Brentford, the initial foul was outside the area, but again that was evidently not viewed as clear and obvious. Most egregiously, the clattering of Chaplin against Leicester. VAR has just created additional muddiness rather than clarity.

By the law, I think the H Clarke one was correct by continuing inside, so I guess you could say it’s done it’s job there. I hated the one against Forest at the time but was never getting overturned I guess. The Leicester farce was incredible. Davis at city never got looked at either, that was a clear penalty. They’re just so bad at it.

Maybe on the Clarke one, even if I think the player deliberately took a fall inside the box despite the foul itself having largely been outside. Fair point re Davis, was clearly and obviously clear and obvious.

We may yet see some of the same refs next year in our big games, a few seem to do both top end of EFL and less high profile PL games. Must be quite hard when one has VAR and the other does not.

Agree, ref tomorrow has only done one Premier League game before, incidentally.
Congratulations to Palace & their fans on 01:10 - May 18 with 267 views | ClareBlue | A great win on a lovely sunny day with 84k well behaved fans for a club outside the usual suspects, should make all fans of decent non sportswashed football clubs have a quick smile, even though it wasn't their club. But no, we are discussing VAR decisions on our forum and the decisions of officials and Pep's future on the BBC. Toxic Premiership values spread far and wide in our sport. Well done Palace. That's us in 3 years. You heard it here first.

Congratulations to Palace & their fans on 20:01 - May 17 by Swansea_Blue | The elephant in the room is pointing out they probably didn’t deserve it due to escaping a sending off which could have completely changed the game. Despite that it’s good to see a team that hasn’t won a major trophy finally get one. Their fans were immense. It was almost a done deal as you could feel so much more energy coming from Palace and their fans. Man C were pretty flat. |
But according to most of our fans only the big clubs get decisions in their favour. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Maybe it's a sign Citeh and their multiple charges of not just FFP (PSR or whatever) are sorted, they're getting relegated and today's game has become a survival play of. Thus Paliss are the big club in yesterday's game. COYB!

Congratulations to Palace & their fans on 22:38 - May 17 by ITFC_Forever | It meant more to Palace which is why they put everything they had into it. To Man City, it was a meaningless consolation prize. Football won today. |
Trophy Tedium for Citeh FF to May 2026 - if we are celebrating promotion it won't be nearly as special as 2024, a day that took over 2 decades to arrive. Paliss fans will, hopefully, not get so entitled that they expect trophies every season (good luck to them in UEL next season), but, I would expect multiple EPL fan bases to point at Paliss' win and say "if they can do it, why can't we?" Especially those who are likely to finish top half with relatively little worry about relegation but have yet to win a top level trophy e.g. Brighton, Bournemouth, Fulham and Brentford

Congratulations to Palace & their fans on 08:34 - May 18 with 171 views | DJR | I am guessing that the celebrations will take form of a bus ride from the ground to central Croydon where there is much more space, including the town hall and adjoining Queen's Gardens. Certainly there is no other obvious place in South Norwood, Thornton Heath or Selhurst which are pretty built-up. [Post edited 18 May 8:35]

Congratulations to Palace & their fans on 09:47 - May 18 with 130 views | m14_blue | Absolutely delighted with the result, can't think of a more deserving club or set of fans than Palace. Scandalous refereeing though, it's obviously a red card and everyone would be crying corruption if it had gone the way of the big team. The officials clearly didn't want to make such a big call so early in a cup final. Written in the stars that Henderson would save the (soft) penalty too!
