Heard on R4 this morning that it is a big anniversary for the show. They interviewed Felicity Kendall.

Ive just googled and watched the first episode. Lovely stuff. Wonderfully written and performed.

And Ms Kendall's character. Surely thats what a spouse ought to be? Sigh.

I remember watching The Good Life, and Butterflies as a kid and thinking that’s not a world I recognize; that cosy comfortable middle-class existence.

It was as you say wonderfully written and acted. There were no weak characters in it.

They show it on BBC4 a lot. The thing that strikes me is what a monster Tom Good is – a preening, arrogant, leching, thieving liar, a child pampered by his wife and friends.

They also show Yes, Minister, which is a really top show still.

To be fair I think at the time a lot boys/men wanted an end in with Margo.

Briers was a very clever actor, able to convey nuance even in comedy. I got to see him as Malvolio in the stage performance of Branagh's Twelfth Night.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Oh yeah, he’s brilliant. He does a great Polonius as well. Guess it’s a reflection on how good an actor he is.

Both Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister are fantastic shows.

Don't forget 'Fathom', he was the bad guy opposite Raquel Welche!
