I do wish the rest of the world would say to Trump ‘you want isolationism, your word means nothing, you are unreliable, vindictive , rat on your friends and have no idea how the world works so p£ss off’.
But sadly it doesn’t work that way. The US is what it is. Massive economically, militarily and because of that politically and cannot be cut off like a wart. so it has to be humoured (Starmer, Macron brown nosing), bluffed (China, Canada) or at least played along with. If you are going to move away from them, which I believe countries should, it can only be done over time.
Credibility wise, America faces a growing problem. Politically it is unstable. Trump has moved the country towards authoritarianism. Old relationships are in the bin, new ones sought. Paranoia and baseless rage rule. Enemies are to be broken and Trump’s sense of entitlement and love of exercising power is everything. He knows he is right in all things. Good luck dealing with that.
For multinational companies SME or anything else, US or otherwise you can’t truly plan long term because you no longer have any certainty of who will be there. Politically, given allies of six months ago are now enemies and visa versa how do you deal with that? Even new best friends Russia are going to be suspicious of a turncoat.
So what if you do? You hold on America, look to invest and build elsewhere and gradually move away from the land of the increasingly less free.
Internally, he is at war with America but the Donald is relying on Chuck from Podunk with his MAGA hat not to notice. He is trying to crush his enemies and telling Chuck it’s a good thing. Chuck will believe him - for now. Trouble is the orange one is creating as many enemies as he crushes.

Anyone essentially with sufficient money can potentially buy a Trump pardon. Trump supporters of course. Big business. If you are an enemy, you’ll be whistling Dixie in the big house for a very long time, innocent or not. So what does this mean? If you are rich and on the right side, you get one form of justice. If you are not, bad luck. Two tier justice. Not exactly American.
Externally, Hesgeth gave mixed messages at the Far East conference yesterday. When all is said and done, America can no longer be relied on. New alliances need forming as the world remodels itself. Assuming there is not a third world war, Trump’s madness may do the west a favour and drive it into less reliance on the US.

The US are very spooked by China and it's eyes are very much on the Pacific region. If it can drive Europe to be more self-sufficient militarily it helps them greatly. If it can keep Russia in check by either letting it continue to bleed in Ukraine or being faux friendly with Putin and controlling any restitution of Russia to the world order, post conflict, that will do nicely to. The China-Taiwan situation and need to build relationships in the Far East is where US interest lies. | | | |

Just another piece of evidence highlighting things he says and by extension the US, have no credibility.
