Sadly, yes that’s how some people want to live and no they don’t want to be better.

Sadly this all feels like the sort of stuff Reform voters would lap up All mouth and no trousers. But as long as they're winning the culture war then that's all that matters

‘Honest Bob’ isn’t the sharpest tool in the box. His latest genius revelation is that lawyers sometimes have to represent bad people. (For some reason the right wing grifters are all going after the Attorney General. They’re all bloody nuts). [Post edited 4 Jun 14:05]

This is them effectively copying the Trump approach from the US. Say whatever is popular, albeit illegal/immoral and worry about the practicalities after being voted in.

Interested to know what a burkha ban achieves? Reform wouldn't be doing it for women's rights as they've already made their feelings on women pretty clear with Farage's abortion views So why ban the Burkha?

Well many countries who have banned it have cited security concerns. Incidentally the ban has been challenged in the ECHR (in Switzerland and France) and been upheld each time. Interestingly its also banned in many muslim countries. The only 2 countries in the world where it is enforced are Iran and Afghanistan.

In which majority Muslim countries is the Burqa banned?

What are the security concerns? Why the Burkha and not Balaclavas? [Post edited 4 Jun 14:53]

Some countries (Austria, for example) have an outright ban on face-covering clothing. Whereas countries such as France outright ban just Islamic face-coverings. I suppose it's a matter of debate as to whether Austria's stance is less islamophobic, or whether it's just a more PR-friendly version of the French ban.

I could understand a ban on face-coverings in public for safety concerns (not saying I'd be on board with it, but it at least makes some sense from a facial recognition POV) Banning the Burkha specifically has no merit whatsoever, so would be interested to know why someone would be pro a ban

Why not pop over to the ECHR and ask why they've upheld the ban when its been challenged. I guess they're right wing fascists too.

A quick fact-check on that... Egypt - no such ban. Algeria - banned in the workplace for public servants. The enacting PM stated a belief that women should be identifiable in the workplace. Morocco - No ban on wearing, merely a ban on the manufacturing and sale of the Afghan burqa. Syria - Full-face veils are banned at universities. Tunisia - Banned in public institutions. Uzbekistan - Outright ban lifted in 2021. Tajikistan, despite being a majority Muslim country, appears to have a pro-Tajik anti-Islam government in place, so I wouldn't see this as fitting your argument that Muslim countries are also banning burqas. Kyrgyzstan - see Tajikistan. [Post edited 4 Jun 15:37]

I checked the very first one you disputed. Banned in schools. CBA to go through the rest. Take it up with Wikipedia if you dispute the list. https://www.africanews.com/2023/09/12/egypt-ban-on-face-veil-in-schools-sparks-d

Well the whole thread is geared toward labelling bans on the burka as Islamophobic. What are the "true colours" the OP speaks of exactly when other countries have banned the item on the exact same premise of "public safety".

Help me understand why it wouldn't be islamophic then? Let's have an actual conversation rather than resorting to "I can't say anything without being labelled a fascist these days"

I've already given you a list of European countries where it is banned, including a couple where the ban has been challenged and upheld in the ECHR. Is "public safety" not a good enough reason for you? Without pouring over the court rulings I dont know the ins and outs of the arguments that were put forward, and to be honest I don't have the time! The thread was started as "oh look Reform are saying fascist things again". They haven't said anything fascist but merely quoted the same reasons on which the burka has been banned in other countries.

Yeah, I replied to that saying why the burkha and not balaclavas? That was ages ago! I also then asked for possible reasons why someone would be pro a ban on Burkhas? At no point have I been rude or argumentative but for some reason you're playing the victim I'm not asking for the ECHR's views. I'm asking for yours or anyone else's who might support a ban. I promise not to use the word fascist (I don't think I ever have on here to be fair), honest!
New Reform MP not wasting any time to show her true colours on 15:32 - Jun 4 with 2588 views | MattinLondon | I’m not in favour of banning any type of dress as the same people that advocate a total ban on the burqa are the same, who when they see a woman showing a lot of cleavage etc on a night out, state that she’s asking for it (if a bloke gropes her etc). They don’t want a ban for any other reason apart from the fact that it doesn’t conform to how they think a woman should dress. Saying that, it should be banned in places like railway stations and airports as there’s no religious basis for it. And showing faces is important in places like that.

I've taken my details from the exact list on Wikipedia that you are claiming to quote. Except that it appears that I've read the article, rather than just looking at the list of countries and not bothering to read any further.
