VAR at it's worst tonight 20:16 - Jun 9 with 1150 viewsGeoffSentence

Took a fecking age to decide it was a penalty for Belgium, then it takes away from the moment of the third goal for another long winded penalty check

The penalty check that was still ongoing after the 3rd goal was a farce.

I don't think VAR reached a decision, I think the ref just got fed up with their incompetence and blew for the kick off.

Could be a major shock tonight in the qualifiers, Italy actually winning 1-0.

Not sure it was a pen after the replay. Lucky.

Farcical, what did that take 5 mins to decide the ball did go out of play?

Did they actually show us the footage used? I don't think they did.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

I would scrap VAR with the exception of offsides if they can become at least semi-automated as they are largely a matter of fact. Using VAR for difficult decisions that depend largely on interpretation is actually counter productive.

Wasn't it initially introduced in order to correct the injustices of 'clear and obvious errors'? (like Maradonna's "hand of God" 'goal').

Anything that's clear and obvious shouldn't take more than 30 seconds.

If it were used like that, I wouldn't have such a problem with it. If the VAR can't determine that the on-file decision should be changed within 30 seconds, the decision stands, But it isn't used like that.

And again? Only thing is he seems to twist his body as if he’s trying to hit it with his arm? Weird decision though.
