The season gone and the season to come 13:20 - Jun 15 with 2222 views | Bromley_Blue | I think it is possible to believe that the club is in a much better state under the new owners, note the progress made and still be critical of the performances last season and also be concerned about some of the decision making both on and off the pitch. A few not particularly well structured thoughts and apologies for the rambling. Last season exposed a weakness in McKenna for not being able to set up the team to see out games and there seems to be a pattern of bringing on substitutes far too late. Whilst it is great to have a manager in demand last season we lost the advantage of automatic promotion as the club set about keeping the manager and this put back work on transfers. KMcK has been great for this club and I am sure last season will have been a massively steep learning curve and I hope he is here to stay for some seasons yet. I don't think he will go to Brentford as I think Brentford put their very successful system above everything including the manager and this limits the role and scope of decision making of whomever has that role at the club. I think KMcK would want a club where he has much more control and also I think it would be very difficult to kick Brentford on to the next level after the excellent tenure of Thomas Frank. I think recent transfer windows have shown how far the scouting and analysis departments at the club were decimated under the previous owner and the work to improve them is going to take a very long time. Once we lost access to Tony Blooms magic spreadsheet our more recent signings on the whole have not had the impact of the windows before but then the level the club is at has increased significantly so it is a harder task. This upcoming window is going to one of the most challenging with comings and goings. Cajuste is a player that was fantastic last season but I do worry about his failed Brentford medical and his managed game time with us suggests that there is an underlying problem there and will be able to play the long hard winter months of Saturday- Tuesday Championship football I hope so as he would be an immense signing. I also hope we can ship off players such as Jack Clarke who is simply out of his depth at the top end of the Championship let alone the Premier League. Also I was always worried about the quality of Slicker simply based on what you see when the squad warm up for games and his recent performance for Scotland is further cause for concern. Again is this an indicator of poor off field work as I understand the goal keeping analysis was outsourced. Ali Al-Hamidi looked like he had won a competition to be a footballer, he is not quite at the level of performance Best and Reo-Coker turned in for us but he is definitely a player we should look to move on. Off the field I think the chief operating officer Luke Werhun needs replacing and I would like to see a director in place with more experience something lacking since Mike O'Leary left More generally I worry about the American ownership in the longterm. So far there have been huge levels of investment but a pension fund will want a significant return on that spending and I am not sure of what their exit strategy is. I suppose you have to judge them on their actions so far which have been excellent but I do have this worry in the background but maybe that is unfair. Overall though if I look back to the club five years ago we are in a great place the work to become a category 1 academy and the new training ground are really positive and hopefully will be great assets for the future of the club. It is exciting to be thinking about players we might be signing rather than scrambling around in the bargain bin of windows long past. Central midfield, right back and an additional striker should be the focus. Morsy has been a great player and captain but the legs are going. [Post edited 15 Jun 13:22]

On the field, heading back to the championship, I’m not sure we are in a better position than the one that left the championship over 12 months ago.

I think this is one of great things about football you rate him and I don't particularly. I think we can do better and in our championship season I think he did ok against mid table and below but was lacking against the better teams. Its a shame as it is great to have local players in the squad.

I think every transfer window is important but this one seems particularly key with lots of work to do. I understand Poku on a free from Peterborough is looking likely, a good player but not where I think we need to strengthen as much as other areas. Really difficult to bring in at the right price players of either premier league potential or capability as well as having the desire to mix it in the Championship.

I don't think Poku will be free if he goes to an English club. That's why the Posh chairman is so worried he might go to Rangers.
The season gone and the season to come on 14:46 - Jun 15 with 1735 views | Blue_Heath | Agree other than Cajuste and Clarke. Cajuste as you say is likely not fit enough for a 46 game championship, he also contributed very little in attack, he looked better than he is due to the lack of competition against him. Clarke is a quality championship player and I think he will be key next season. The transfer dealings in general have been poor and no real upgrade in some areas but totally killing the team ethic at the same team which I think on balance gave us more negatives than positives. We also need to get some players in now, Tuanzebe will be next out and I am sure Omari's U21 exploits aren't going unnoticed. I can also see a fair few others going e.g. Chaplin and Broadhead who have likely had their noses put out of joint similar to Cam. Also we have a very unbalanced squad with Philogene/Burns/Ogbene for example and nothing in centre mid. It wouldn't surprise me if we end up Burnleyesque and having a huge squad turnover. Then we have the likes of Muric who knows how that will end?
The season gone and the season to come on 14:47 - Jun 15 with 1741 views | ParisBlue | It's going to be an interesting 12 months. Promotion is the absolute aim, anything less has to be failure. Ever since KM arrived we've seen an upward trajectory but this feels like the first big test. I expect player turnover to be huge, and this time next year its feasible that none of the 22/23 L1 promotion team remain at the club. Whether we spent well last summer is open to question, but it made some sense. The attribute KM appears to value above all else is pace, hence Greaves, O'Shea, Ogbene ahead or Burgess, Woolfenden, Burns. Probably better players overall, but not £20m better. With Delap gone and Omari (maybe Davis and O'Shea too) likely to follow our squad has gaping holes. Central midfield could be without Morsy, Axel i can see leaving, Philogene maybe as well. And thats before I try to work out how we've ended up with 4 goalkeepers, none of whom convince me going forward. So somehow the squad has become a bit of a mess, though arguably still the strongest in the Championship. Its the first big test for MA since the takeover, and also the first chance for KM to build a brand new team and blend them quickly, having inherited many of the players when he joined. I'm not too worried about the ownership, but they'll clearly be wanting a return to the PL at the first attempt. If that weren't to happen they might take action. I agree MA could do with more experience alongside him, I've not been comfortable with him being Chairman and CEO and he sounded weary in his recent interview with the eadt, fewer buzzwords and not one mention of Oxygen. This season could become anything...

I really not get your assessment of Jack Clarke. He was an absolute menace to defences in the Championship with Sunderland, and just didn't have too many opportunities to show his best for us in the Premiership this season. In the last couple of games he really began to show his potential. In 23/24 he was one of the stars in the Championship, and I see him being pivotal for us next season.

Did you see his Scotland performance it was awful. I doubt he will make 15 appearances for the first team at Ipswich.

Did you read the first link? Peterborough certainly made him an offer (knowing he was not going to take it, obviously.) " In the event of a player, who is under the age of 24 prior to 30th June 2025, not accepting an offer of re-engagement and subsequently signing on contract or non-contract terms for a new Club in England, the two Clubs must agree a compensation fee. If the player has attained the age of 24 on or before 30th June 2025 and his contract has expired, no compensation fee can be claimed by the former Club. In addition, no compensation is payable if the player moves abroad. However, Training Compensation may be due in accordance with FIFA Regulations (see article set out below). If the two Clubs are unable to agree a compensation fee, the fee will be settled by a Tribunal and such decision will be final and binding. Therefore, Clubs are encouraged to agree compensation fees without recourse to the Tribunal process."

Classic backtracking after being found out for a lack of knowledge. Jack Clarke was one of the best players in the Championship the season that we got promoted. Harry Clarke played 7 games for us in the Prem. Next time you want to slag someone off, maybe do some actual research.

Of course we need to develop that area ourselves which i think we are on the case re, but it takes time to develop. Depends who we can nick from other clubs really, innit.
