Dentist recommendation. 19:45 - Jun 24 with 1362 viewsfabian_illness

Couple of front teeth got knocked flat when I was in my teens, A&E doctor yanked them straight but they've always been a problem.
I've always been NHS but my dentist won't do the implants I want and sent me down the road to a private place.
They've scared me saying I need lots of work and I've already parted with just over £1600 on 2 consultations, a small filling and 4 visits to their hygienist.
Now they want £9000 for implants and all the associated work.
I'm starting to think I'm being conned.
Anyone got a decent recommendation for a private dentist?
I know it will cost me and I'm quite prepared to pay but just not sure they are being straight with me.

I'm in Hadleigh but dont care where within reason.

I had a complete set of implants in Turkey and they are fantastic.

They pulled the whole lot out and replaced them with pearlers

£10k including bone grafts

Based on the dental costs I'm aware of that price sounds normal.

As an dyi, Last year there was an article in the Evening Standard about a couple of guys who had fallen out over a company they owned. It was a financial investment company. Bit of a long story, so I won't bore you with all the details, but one of them had secretly removed the other as a Director because the other had returned to his previous job. Well, he had returned to being a private dentist, because as a private dentist he could earn £400k+ pa, and at the financial investment company he was only earning £200k
I was shocked that a private dentist could earn
£400k+, but after hearing how much the costs are, I suppose I shouldn't be that shocked.

I was going to post that weirdos in America do this even though there’s nothing wrong with their teeth, but you saved me the trouble . Why did you do it out of interest? I could never under understand why people would do it voluntarily. Did you have issues, was worried about issues in the future or just wanted perfect teeth?

Reminds me of the old dentist joke.

‘Your teeth are fine but your gums have got to come out’

The thought of Lucan with a set of Rylan/Red Rum gnashers amuses me greatly.

Years of drinking and smoking takes its toll and I had lost one at the front and had a denture. I really couldn't stand the plate so I thought I would have the full monty.

One of the best things I have done, really really happy with them.

Makes sense. It’s silly money in the US and UK, so Turkey sounds like a bargain.

My wife’s a GP and one of her colleagues told me an amusing story recently.

A patient with a history of weight issues that were seriously affecting his diabetes management, decided to go to Turkey to have a gastric band fitted about 4 years ago.

The NHS waiting list for this procedure was several years and he wasn’t willing to wait.

All went well and his weight and diabetes were subsequently under far better control.

He presented at the surgery last year with a urine infection and was prescribed with antibiotics.

He went back after a couple of weeks as the infection wasn’t responding to them, so my wife’s colleague sent him to hospital for a precautionary scan.

The results of the scan stated that all was okay and that it was quite common for patients with only one kidney to find that urinary tract infections took longer to clear up.

He’d gone to Turkey with two kidneys….and you can guess the rest.

The clinic he’d used was one of those pop-up ones that frequently relocate and change names and he’s so far been unsuccessful in his efforts to trace them..

You could try Berners Dental Practice on 40 Berners St, Ipswich IP1 3LU 01473 258557. Maybe they could be better for you. Not sure they are taking on new NHS patients at the moment, though.

I’m not in Suffolk so can’t help with recommending a dentist, but I did recently have an implant (fell off bike drunk in my late twenties and knocked out three), at a cost of £3000ish. That was discounted by my dentist but £9K seems steep for two.

Mmm, that didn't happen did it.

My daughters friend though had fat surgery in Turkey and ended up having to spend an elongated time over there due to infection.

I think she came back about 10 days late and once back in to UK had to pretty soon be admitted to hospital again where the staff were bastards to her.

They are guaranteed for life.

In fact - I broke one and went back to get it fixed, they looked at them and decided to replace the whole set as they weren’t happy with them. The new ones are a much better fit.

Plus - for the first time in my life I can now whistle.

On a negative note I do very occasionally have an involuntary dribble, but I’m working on that.

I was highly sceptical but apparently it’s true and there are historical cases in South America and India of this happening as well.

Where’s there’s kidneys there’s cash.

Locals from poorer rural communities going in for routine gastro intestinal procedures and ending up with a larger than expected scar and far longer recovery times.

Your daughter’s friend’s experience is also fairly common as some NHS doctors adopt a very unsympathetic approach to people who do it and then expect the NHS to pick up the pieces.

There was a similar attitude to women who had boob and butt jobs in dodgy foreign clinics then went to NHS hospitals once they had complications.

Can't recommend this chap highly enough - he's blooming ace.

Not that far into Ipswich from Hadleigh and he's got a fantastic "bedside manner".

Replaced a couple of crowns, sorted a bridge and even did a gum stitching repair to make good a previous repair.

Please note: prior to hitting the post button, I've double checked for anything that could be construed as "Anti Semitic" and to the best of my knowledge it isn't. Anything deemed to be of a Xenophobic nature is therefore purely accidental or down to your own misconstruing.

Mrs FE had an implant last year. It took several appointments, over several months, and cost around £5k. So your quote seems reasonable.
We have used the same private dental surgery for 25 years, in London, near Tower Hill. The Dental Surgery. Not the cheapest, but, by heck, they are very, very good.

Miss Slave wants to know if that was top and bottom teeth.
Regarding the dribble you should try pilates for strengthening the pelvic floor.

I live in Australia, prices are extortionate.

Had a friend who married a thai girl, who was born and raised in Australia. Via her he recommended a dentist in Bangkok to do root canal treatment, mate went come back, well happy.

I had front tooth knocked out and needed some work. Was quoted huge prices, then thought I'd check out this bangkok dentist. Of course I was very sceptical, but to my surprise I was in a brand new shopping centre (paragon siam), super professional like you wouldn't know the difference between uk/aus/bangkok and it was cheaper for me to fly there, have a holiday and have the work done thani was quoted here. If you want more details pm me.

Yes, top and bottom. They took the whole lot out in one session which ended after midnight.

I then had to wait 6 months whilst my mouth calmed down before they could add the implants.

Edit. Ive whatsapped you some photos.
