The front page of the Mail and the fact that Bob Vylan is headline news on Sky are proof of the following, which I posted on another thread.
"Throughout the war in Gaza, the dead cat strategy has been played to perfection by those in media and elsewhere in this country supporting the Israeli government.
It was apparently the brainchild of Lynton Crosby, and Boris Johnson described it thus.
"Let us suppose you are losing an argument. The facts are overwhelmingly against you, and the more people focus on the reality the worse it is for you and your case. Your best bet in these circumstances is to perform a manoeuvre that a great campaigner describes as "throwing a dead cat on the table, mate".
That is because there is one thing that is absolutely certain about throwing a dead cat on the dining room table – and I don't mean that people will be outraged, alarmed, disgusted. That is true, but irrelevant. The key point, says my Australian friend, is that everyone will shout "Jeez, mate, there's a dead cat on the table!"; in other words they will be talking about the dead cat, the thing you want them to talk about, and they will not be talking about the issue that has been causing you so much grief."

Not all retirees read The Mail, and not all who read The Mail are retirees. Doesn't fully explain why anyone reads it but the first stage of analysis is disciplined information gathering. perhaps the next stage is to posit whether The Mail satisfies some primeval need to confirm in the hope of survival as part of a large group that might be attacked...a bit like wildebeest ?
Of course, it’s just very obviously retirees around me as we’re surrounded by them. Bigots come in all ages. As do hippies and saints!
I lost my dad to the DM, it was pretty depressing stuff. I don’t think a wildebeest was involved.

It’s true what I say,all two tier fans hate America and Israel funny that.
Do you ever consider there might be reasons for other people having different views to your very narrow ones? That maybe there's some nuance, or something else, you've missed? That maybe you should open your mind to some other possibilities?
Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Maybe the wildebeest analogy is something of a tenuous one but consider this; most of us feel under financial pressure one way or another and if an apparent solution, or at least a common issue to gripe about, presents itself then we are inclined to leap at it. The Mail has been doing this for decades with a constant promise that everything will be better if only there was less tax. So the wildebeest gather and clomp off in their great migration in search of lower taxes. When it comes to the river crossing and their passage to the other side where the NHS is replaced by private healthcare a few are taken by the lions who lurk at the steep banks dragging down those who can't afford the premiums but the majority scramble across feeling safe in numbers and blotting out the carnage they so recently witnessed.

The front page of The Mail also intentionally conflates the people of Israel with the IDF.
Headline:
"Death to Israeli's chants".
Article:
"Death to the IDF".
It's always made clear we should distinguish between those things yet here we having a national paper pushing an equivalence in order to push their agenda and stir up a certain demographic.

would the mail conflating the two be seen as anti-semetic?

But is it such an unreasonable equivalence given that most of the Israeli population are conscripted shortly after reaching adulthood ?

That's a fair response, a few points on that:
- They are only conscripted for a few years, many of those in the IDF will be career military.
- If they really objected to shooting unarmed Palestinians looking for food they could object. This is a legal right and upheld by Israeli courts from what I can see (with limited investigation).
Outside of the above though, I just think the headline is quite misleading given the actual chant. The headline implies that the Israeli populace as a whole including non-combatants were the target when that is clearly not the case. Given many readers don't get past the headline it's important to highlight that.

According to Hebrew Wikipedia, around a quarter of the standing IDF is career military (they will largely be the senior officers). If you take into account reserves (which the IDF is currently heavily reliant on due to the extended conflict in Gaza), the career military makes up about 7% of total manpower.

Ironically Bob Vylan did a song that that's at least partly appropriate here.

Thanks for the numbers.
Doesn't really change the point about the misleading headline but it's good to know the figures.

So that'll be the ones giving the orders then...careerist c#nts, aren't armies fun.
"They break our legs and tell us to be grateful when they offer us crutches."
"Free Palestine" yes. "Kill the IDF". Not for me. It makes us no better than them and I want to be better than them. The faux moral outrage exhibited by most of the cabinet is pathetic, hence my support for the MP in question here.
Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

I take your general point but saying "death to the IDF" is, in fact, better than murdering Palestinians

Yes, but I'm not one for wanting to really wish death on anyone, that's why I wouldn't join in with that chant. Of course your point is spot on and I recognise that in my faux outrage comment. Where is Starmer et al when the IDF slaughter more innocent lives? The silence is defening. No one is talking about Gaza today and that ia sad.

Far too many idiots performing under the term ‘artists’. Sing your songs and shut up with political hate crap.
Unfortunately we are at a time in society where, as a literal genocide is playing out thousands of miles away, our governments are in the back pockets of the aggressor and really struggling to properly turn our attention to all of that, so it comes down to artists, influencers, movie stars, whoever you like with an audience to keep the Palestinian wave going.
That being said, Bob Vylan's 'you want your country back, stfu' stuff was downright weird and embarrassing.
