No different to chanting 'death, death to the [insert genocidal aggressor here]'.

The IDF are no different to Putin's thugs in Ukraine, Milosevic's goons in Yugoslavia, or any other of their ilk.

isn't there connscription in Israel? it's the leaders not foot soldiers they should be protesting at

Disapproving of (or condemning) the Israeli and American leaderships is not the same as hating Israel and the USA. Don't make the mistake of conflating those positions.

I haven't seen it but i see its being reported as death to the IDF. Think thats where it crosses a line. Think supporting Palestine is understandable but not chanting for the death of people.

Nine o'clock BBC news just said this set won't be available on the iPlayer, never mind I saw them last year, first time on the big stage at Bearded Theory so what did he do ? Lead the crowd in shouting out the 'C' word as loud as the amplification could be turned up. Personally I found that part of their act a bit tiresome but they certainly were dynamic the rest of the time.

All armies are comprised of ordinary folk, their actions shaped by circumstances, orders, the nature of the state organising them. Personally wouldn't wish death on any of them, wish they'd go home and stop visiting violence on innocent civilians.

That said, if any other armed institution (the IRGC, Russian Armed Forces, Wagner, whoever) was reported as routinely doing like stuff this:

No one would be squeamish about what you were allowed to say about them.

I think it's telling that Bob Vylan doing, an admittedly slightly foolish, chant about the idf seems to have generated more anger than the many many atrocities carried out.

I've barely seen more than a metaphorical shrug of the shoulders from our media and government about the actual actions of Israel, but how dare some bad men do a chant at a music festival.

This. All day long.
The chant is unacceptable and the moral high ground is lost.
However, the confected outrage is completely misplaced and disproportionate to the crimes of the Israeli state.

It's also popular to hate immigrants on here. One poster even once said he wanted to machine gun them at the channel tunnel.

I wonder if he was just staying with the herd at the time?

You clearly totally misunderstand peoples views on the subject.

And if an Israeli or Israel supporting band performed there chanting 'death, death to The IRG, Hamas and Hezbollah' I wonder how the crowd and the masses would react - would that be acceptable? Just asking.

Oops!

I'm not a fan of the 'from the river to the sea' line - that can mean anything from a muslim state requiring the necessary destruction of Israel, an greater Israel requiring the inevitable destruction of Palestine, all the way through to a secular one-state solution. Pick your poison and the argument you want to make, but it's too often been used by extremists on both sides for my liking. It's simultaneously meaningless and aggressive.

There's long been a history of protest in music. The politicians and police are on to a bit of a loser if they try and clamp down on this sort of stuff, as it will just encourage more.

100% agree. It took bloody ages for any on the right to even start to question what Israel are doing, even after various international organisations had expressed concerns that they were committing war crimes.

I don't like the 'death to the IDF' chants though. It's not very summer of love. Although it's very obvious the IDF are a murderous organisation. I wouldn't shed a tear if they got a dose of their own medicine.

'Well, the rifleman's stalking the sick and the lame
Preacher man seeks the same, who'll get there first is uncertain
Nightsticks and water cannons, tear gas, padlocks
Molotov's cocktails and rocks behind every curtain
False-hearted judges dying in the webs that they spin
Only a matter of time 'til night comes steppin' in

Jokerman dance to the nightingale tune
Bird fly high by the light of the moon
Oh, oh, oh, Jokerman'

Sorry, perhaps you haven’t seen the news lately, but Israel is currently engaged in genocide. So any band supporting genocide probably wouldn't be to popular.

That’s the official position of the British government is it not? I doubt it would be especially controversial, particularly as it’s actually happening. Do you not watch the news?

Disgust at genocide does not equate to support for Hamas et al, no matter how many times it’s used as a slur to deflect attention from the horror unfolding.
