Just made their 4th signing of the week, all fairly impressive (no reflection on our activity intended)

James Beadle & Tommy Doyle on loan
Demarai Gray
Bright Samuel

As a team coming out of L1 it's necessary in order to compete to get some good signings in, but looks like they mean business

Poll: If we could perm sign just one, which would it be?

Not sure on Beadle and Gray. Like Doyle a lot. Osayi Samuel is hit and miss but a fun player to watch.

Doyle is a great signing for them, can't really be sure on the others, Beadle obviously rated, Gray you're not sure what one will turn up.

Samuel is a Nigerian international now, so must be half decent.

Think you’re underestimating Gray there, 2 years in Saudi but a PL regular before and only 29. Main revelation last season was just how much higher the levels of players that most would perceive to be average, mid-table fodder are and Gray is very much of that ilk

Highlighting crass stupidity since sometime around 2010

Just a footballer I have never particularly rated personally.

Scary one.

Poll: So, how many league wins did you see in person?

Brum on 12:13 - Jul 4 with 2414 viewsHerbivore

Be interesting to see how they fare PSR wise. When we came up we were quite limited in what we could spend and we only spent about £3m in that summer window. Admittedly we spent a bit in League 1 too, but Brum dropped £15m on Stansfield alone last year and seem to be splashing the cash again. Hard to see how they can do that within the rules.

Indeed, that’s a possibility and I think that’s one of the reasons we stormed through the Championship last time. The squad all knew each other, our patterns of play and understanding were all in place. If they need to recruit too many new faces it could upset the stability.

I might (and probably am) be wrong but I think they have better potential to cook their books with sponsor/owner commercial support than we did/do. Regardless though, they are going for it.

Does anyone really care about the rules any more beyond those with no money? Say Birmingham are hit with a fine. Firstly they have unlimited money and secondly the Premier League reward is so great, why worry about what the EFL are going to do?

Leicester? Let’s face it, it’s gone pear shaped but that’s nothing to do with any actions by the EFL or Premier League. Man City? Another paltry fine for their 100+ offences? Anything beyond that and the owners will come down on the Premier League blazers like a ton of bricks. The stunt Aston Villa pulled selling the women’s’ team - all above board. Yeah, right.

It’s all so wrong. However, Birmingham and the like, if they have the means which they do, why not? The only actions that should make clubs think are transfer embargoes combined with demotion.

Alternatively, let clubs spend what they like and f the consequences. All a bit sorded and sad.

they probably need to do far more business than us, soton and leicester as they're going up a league.

i prefer our approach (in '23-'24) of keeping the momentum and spirit from league 1 and keeping your powder dry for january, but they may have more structural issues (did they have any loanees to replace)

Maybe they have found another way to work within the current rules and spend huge amounts. They need to do this without upsetting the league too much. Leicester are now going to face the wrath of the league (twice probably) for be somewhat sneaky with their finances by using clever use of the wording of the rules.

Wagner said they were forecast to break the record for non-parachute-club revenue at this level, somehow (at a guess I would punt on remarkably generous sponsorship deals rolling in behind the Tom.Brady brand), and they're making a splash no doubt.

Look half decent to me and they will have lots of momentum like we did when we came up. Tough place to go and play as well.

The only Muff in Town.

If a club has the finances then why shouldn't they be able to spend it, the rules just keep the top clubs at the top by restricting anyone below them in their attempts to break into their elite world

They had a couple of good loanees in Ben Davies and Dowell who've gone back. While they have made permanent a couple of others in Sampsted and Gardner-Hickman
