England Women’s Euro Thread 18:05 - Jul 5 with 2523 viewsSwailsey

Would be cool to get a thread going for those interested/watching today and for the rest of the tournament.

What are people’s thoughts? France are definitely weakened without Renard, surprising that.

I really fancy us to get a result tonight and have super high hopes for the tournament.

Awful defending from Bronze too. Loses her footing and instead of dragging it out for a corner, knocks it into the danger area.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm watching the same game as the commentary team. They are talking like England have been unlucky because of 2 close decisions. England have been pretty dire, France have been all over them like a rash and deserve their lead.

England really need to up their game second half and string a few passes together.

Toone should have started, she reminds me so much of Chaplin, the way she connects the midfield and attack, and always has a goal in her

100% agree. The French have been far better than us, causing all sorts of problems down both flanks and pressing us a lot better in the middle of the park. The French fully deserved their half time lead, England have been outplayed.

Might not be popular, but why is the ITV studio panel all women, when we always seem to have a female representative for the men’s games? Just putting that out there.

Always want Wrighty in there, but maybe he wasn’t available.

Took the words right out of my mouth - England looking much like Town in the Prem last season.

My comment to Mrs BSW was that the ladies were playing like Ipswich, and not the promotion version.

Don't put a challenge in, let them have it in a forward position, then back off when they run at the defence. This is 100% like watching us last season.

France are the favourites,

With good reason, having now seen them. Really sharp and classy, slick passing.

Have to agree. The contrast in the running is stark. France incredibly athletic, some of our girls running as though they've just come off an all day bender.

France have played the rules quite well really. They have put in a number of robust challenges and gotten away with it. England we good first 15-20 minutes , but did an Ipswich and didnt score when on top. French played great since then. Much more ability and look like a 21C team. England have huffed and puffed. I feel for Mead, she is not the player she was before the injury. James should not have come out for the second half. France have done well. Done what they needed to. England should have changed their shape in the middle of the first half.

I think this performance has confirmed my thoughts that women's football standard has actually fell in the last couple of years...in this country at least.

France look quite sharp
England look like a side full of players past their best and short of a yard in every confrontation.
Women’s football has moved on. England haven’t.

France managed the game better. The England manager had the right players on at the end. But well done France they got a lot of their game correct and also had the rub of the green. Felt a bit for the ref as there were quite a few 50/50 decisions that could have gone our way, but didn't. A few of those times where the laws of the game are not quite right.

We didnt deserve teh win, but the 2nd french goal was a clear foul ignored by var, and some of the decisions were awful. Mead bursting through with no foul at all etc.
