Nerdy post but STN is close to overtaking Manchester in passenger numbers. That's pretty incredible as MAN was always a pretty clear number 3.
More flagship carriers now as well with Emirates and soon to be coming daily flights on Turkish Airlines to Istanbul from next spring. So not just a low cost holiday hub.
Guess it always had potential for this kind of growth with the population around there and alleviating the need to get to the other side of the city. More expansion planned to possible increase capacity to 50M a year, which would be quite the economic driver for the area.

Flew from their a couple weeks ago, first time in 12 years, it’s now basically RyanAir’s airport, was shocked at the number of flights they have departing, departures board was a sea of yellow. As others have said it’s a shopping centre. |  | | |

Yes, it used to feel quite airy and spacious, but it's quite unpleasant now.

Fair enough. I've also never had problems there as such, just always found it dated and cramped, with no decent food options. Always seemed to fall very short of what you'd expect from the airport of such a major city. Haven't flown from there for 5 or 6 years though, maybe it's improved. | | | |

As a taxi driver the £7 set down/pick up fee does seem a bit of a liberty, even Heathrow is only a fiver. |  | | |

It's more the airport than the roads that struggle for me - I flew out of their in middle of May to DXB and it was a 9pm flight and one of the last of the day.....was a nice memory of what STN used to be like when you could actually walk round, find a seat, get a drink and some food quite easily.
Flew out of there last weekend on an early Friday morning flight and it was back to your usual carnage, 100 person Q coming out of the pub there etc |  |

Haven't used A120 past Stansted for a few years now so I could have been talking nonsense.
A guy I used to work with opened a diner/snack shack thing on the A120, post Covid, he played for Colchester when Burley was the gaffer there, apparently he was viewed as a bit of a b@stard because he worked them so hard in training, but they daren't complain as George put himself through everything they were subjected to. Stansted was one of the options for the 3rd London Airport in the late 60s/early 70s. It was the perfect place for it, but it was blocked by the rich tory landowners in that area.
I last used Stansted about 10 years ago. Even then it was getting busy so I dread to think what it’s like now. One of the things I loathe about Gatwick and Heathrow is how when you’ve got through the misery of bag drop off and security you are herded through winding walkways of over priced shops, leaving ever shrinking space for people to sit down when they’re through. Benters Green is on the Eastern exit route from Stansted,well one side is the other side of the green is for inbound Stansted flights.
Anyway we see loads of Ryanair flights coming over.
We also see lots of old 747 cargo aircraft coming over which is nice of you like that kind of thing. |  |
