That was my first thought. It’s brave of York to reclaim a symbol that’s been misappropriated by wangers. They risk getting some grief for it, but it needs doing. Agree on other flags/symbols you mention too.

Probably no link and just a coincidence. There’s been a pretty steep rise in racial abuse across all leagues, so it’s likely to be a coincidence. This symbol is similar to the Valknut but not quite the same. People may not be making the link, but who knows what goes through the tiny little mind of a racist.

York have had a bit of a repeated issue with a group of youngsters that have started following them regularly since they returned to the National League a couple of years ago. It’s not usually racial, just gobby kids that get a bit over excited. More than likely that one of these overstepped the mark. It sounds like they’d been giving Salford players some stick and then didn’t like it when they scored and gave some back.
