Anyone any thoughts on why we allowed this to happen on a free. Felt like a bit of a favour to Lee Grant and maybe also to Harness himself?

Felt it was a bit odd though to allow him to go for free. We had an option on his contract for another year. Of course he was going to. I've on but feel we would have got at least £500k for him and arguably more. Good player and £500-750k is not to be sniffed at.

Can only assume it suited us maybe to have it done early so not to take time up and perhaps a signing in fee and wages would have meant smaller return from sale. Just find it surprising we wouldn't want to max out profit and revenue in for PSR.

I would guess that the wages would have been prohibitive for a move. He has likely taken a wage cut to join Huddersfieldin League One.

I assume because it would have committed us to a salary that the clubs looking to buy him won't have been able to match.

The club(s) who were interested may not have been able/willing to stretch to £0.5m plus wages, leaving Town having to look around for a new buyer for a player anyway surplus to requirements. Which takes time and attention away from new signings.

Perhaps we are comfortable enough on PSR for it not to be that much of an issue.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

If we could have done it, we likely would have. The new regime are serious people, not a charity so they are unlikely to just be doing Huddersfield a favour.

Truly impaired.

True. You would just think it could have been offset/difference made up with a payoff. I guess maybe I'm over optimistic if his value. Just struck me as disappointing.

I think he could be one of the best frees in L1 this season. Reckon he gets double figures for them.

Wonder whether Ladapo can force his way back. He's had 2 years of no contribution now unfortunately.

Good luck to Harness anyway. Good guy!

As already said it is so that clubs will buy him and be able to offer a decent wage for him. No interest if clubs have to pay a fee for him.

Quite. Clubs in the Championship aren’t going to be queuing up to pay a fee for him. 100% the right decision to let him find regular football somewhere else instead of letting him rot here. He looked poor for Derby when I saw them this season. He’s done well to get a decent club in L1. He’s a decent player, but that’s his level.

Marcus Harness always gave 100% and his spirit typified why the club were promoted back to the championship and then to the PL.

I guess the club could have played hardball and demand a fee but I’m glad that we didn’t. He deserved to leave without a long protracted transfer.

Obviously getting him off the wage bill benefited the club but it was also the decent thing to do as well.

Am I right in thinking he'd have been on prem wages when he went out in loan so even with a relegation reduction it prob would have been priced a club like Huddersfield out of the market

a niche perspective

Who knows, but if it’s in the club and the player’s best interests fine. I thought MH was a good player and looked quite lively for Derby last season.

Harness made a valuable contribution to our rise from L1, seemed a good club man. Was he quite as good as I thought he might be when he signed? Not quite, but ha can be proud of what he did achieve here. I wish him well.
