My thoughts on omari leaving… 13:59 - Jul 18 with 2676 views | danchances22 | Brentford and United agreed 76m deal for mbuemo so looking likely we will get 40m for omari. Which is nuts really I know I said we aren’t really making much in a comment the other day as we signed him for 22m, and Chelsea have a sell on clause etc but after a rethink these are now my thoughts….. He struggled in the premier league albeit he was in a poor side and Had his moments and of course still young so we can look at it in 2 ways. 1, he won’t cut it in the premier league ever and we will be laughing in a few years time at the 40m price tag (Chelsea and Arsenal both had him in their academy’s, was released by Arsenal and Chelsea sold him to us) or 2, we sell him for 40m now and then in a few years time he’s one of the best players in the premier league and Brentford sell him for a ridiculous fee, which I imagine we will have some kind of sell of clause in place. Like the championship season was so odd, First half the season he was starting games and all our fans were like why is he starting for his more of an impact player etc, so he was dropped. Then, second half Of the championship season he was a completely different player and was outstanding and one of the best players I’ve seen play for us at that level. My honest assessment is that he’s been keen on playing at the highest level ever since we got relegated which you can’t blame him, he’s talented of course, but we are stacked in that area so we shouldn’t be worried to much. Makes me think, had he of not performed so well for the u21s would any premier league clubs even be interested in him? Because if I was a scout watching his premier league performances last season, I surely wouldn’t be pursuing him any further. I mean I’m not going to sit there and criticise the player as he was part of our promotion team, and I wish him all the best. But not all is doom and gloom…..40m gets us 2/3 really good players. good luck omari!

Relegation candidates this season IMO. Is it just greed?? And all this ‘£40 million gets us 2/3 players’ - still need to convince them to come here, didn’t need to sell to buy either. |
Another Two or Three quality signings like Omar (if he goes), could ensure they are not relegation favourites?

My thoughts on omari leaving… on 14:39 - Jul 18 by NedPlimpton | I feel like this time last year, a lot of people were saying McKenna would be mad to leave us for Brighton. It's not much of an upgrade, they've sold their best players, they've hit their ceiling, one poor season and they've had it etc etc And that was when we were going up to be in the same league as them. Rather than jumping from the Championship to the Prem like Omari will be There seems to be a lot of that about Brentford now because they've lost Frank and a couple of players. Let's not forget they finished 10th last season, 31(!) points above the relegation zone. They've had long spells without Mbeumo in the past due to injury and faired ok. They also lost Toney the season before for gambling and then to Saudi etc It's obviously not just greed. It's also a higher level of football for at least one more season. Yes, it'll probably be more money, but if I move to a job that pays more does that make me greedy or just looking out for myself and my family. |
Good points. It's not pure greed it's just how football works. Brentford have a superb track record in the transfer market and have lost top players each season..only to be replaced and remain stable and competitive. Omari going to a club in the Prem makes perfect sense for his ambitions, same as it did for Delap, and same as it did for players joining us last season from the Champ.

If we're serious about Hayden Hackney, I think we'll creep into that price range. Could also be we just get more £10m players. I fully expect us to pick up another 3 in that price range.

My thoughts on omari leaving… on 14:21 - Jul 18 by Steve_M | I think fans overdo the idea that Omari struggled last season, he was consistently one of our two biggest threats in his ability to carry the ball and beat defenders. Sometimes his decision making let him down but that was as a player in his second season of senior football dealing with a big increase in the quality of the opposition. Our biggest problem last year was that our two most effective players were two of our youngest. And that's why we've (seemingly) lost both of them. It's good money coming in, and that is very much part of the player trading model we need if we want to prosper, but I would still much rather have Omari playing for us next season. |
Almost everything good we did went through him or Delap, or both. To say he struggled is way off. He maybe found himself too easily muscled off the ball in the early stages of the season but that improved massively. The Spurs away and United home games really stood out to me in terms of how he'd bulked up a bit.

Think the context on Omari is that whilst it's a relatively modest profit, it goes a long way in terms of our immediate spending power. We could spend £45m on 2 new midfielders and 2 new strikers and what we'd have to put in the books for those 4 fees this season would still likely be less than half what we'd book for this sale. We also won't be paying in one lump. And Chelski still owe us money on Delap. I'm sure 3 top players will be coming in quite shortly.

He didn't struggle compared to most of our team, he looked about one of only a handful of our players who be fine at that level in a decent side. A player that could actually scare PL defenses. I sometimes wonder what people are watching.
