Omari buy back clause if we sell 15:59 - Jul 18 with 2438 viewsRIPbobby

With this new buy back clause that has come into place the last few years I think we need to look very carefully at this and make sure we leave ourselves in the best possible position if his team are relegated after the following season. Make sure we can get him back at bottom dollar and also give ourselves first refusal on him.

Incidentally I think the reason Tuanzebe left is because he knew he would perform better in the Prem than he will in the Championship and kept his value up. Notice that he is only on a 1 year deal with Burnley. I think that says a lot. Wouldn't surprise me if he comes back next year if they are relegated and we are promoted.

Love the idea, but I very much doubt there has ever been an instance where a club in a lower division gets a buy-back clause into a deal.

I fully expect that we will insert a sell on % of profit though

Probably an upside of selling to Brentford as well. They're more likely to trade him on if he makes his mark. That said, with what they're paying and it being a % of profit its not likely to be a massive windfall. Even in our wildest dreams he doesn't become an £80m player Shirley.

20% of 20m profit nets us £4m, so you're looking at £4-7m extra max

Good shout but with Axel, I think 1, he clearly wanted to move closer to home and 2, Burnley being prudent, I don't know but I'd guess there's an extension clause their end? Either way I doubt we will see Axel in a Town shirt again but like the idea of getting Omari back.

(… which would effectively work as a discount % were we to buy him back in that scenario.)

Don’t think we have any bargaining position to suggest that tbh and very much doubt the player would agree to it

Agreed. Ashton will still blow smoke up his own a**e telling us it’s a wonderful deal for the club though.

A better season than last year and he will be a £50 million player.

International Caps (although as I have said on another thread there are several ahead of him right now) and playing well for England could see him reach £80 million plus.

Could he be as good for Brentford (or other team) as Grealish was for Villa? Even close to that would put him in the £80 million bracket.

Championship club selling to a Premier League Club for starters.

Why would Omari agree to it? He won’t be interested in coming back here.

I agree that it would be unusual - buy back clauses are usually only in the contract when buying from a top club with young players with potential, but no current chance of getting close to the active squad. It de-risks allowing potential talent move on. This just doesn't apply to most clubs - even many in the PL.

However, Hutch wouldn't have a say in it - this clause is one added to the contract between the clubs, not the contract between the player and the club.

Of course he has a say in it. If he refuses to sign a contract with us, the clause is meaningless isn’t it?

If we got a clause in, it would probably be in the order of £50-60m. It makes no sense for Brentford to put in less. However, are we realistically going to be in a position to spend that much on a single player in the next couple of years? I doubt it.

Just doesn't really make sense for either party.

May be we’re talking at crossed purposes here. I thought you were saying that he’d have no say as to whether he played for us next season if Brentford and us agreed a buy back clause.

Yeah, we're talking at cross purposes

I was just saying that Hutch doesn't have a say in whether or not the clubs insert a buy-back clause in the agreement between the clubs if he was sold.

A new club eager to get his signature. A signature influenced by future opportunity and an agent who would laugh at the thought of us wanting to insert a buy back clause, usually inserted to limit the risk of selling young players which the club has spent years developing. Omari would absolutely have a say.

Why would Brentford or Omari agree to that.

He’s either had a poor season, if his only option is a promoted side, and he’s been relegated, or he’s had a good season and the world will be at his feet.

We messed up.

We signed only EFL players, spent up to £150 million, and so the two that are exceptional prospects alhave left…, and they aren’t coming back.

That’s the reality. Your fantasy is nice though.., would be great to get Delap back too .., also not happening…, and either is Tuenzabe, again, if we go up, he’ll still have better options, or won’t be good enough.

We need to look forwards.

We made such a massive mess financially, and strategically, that our owners are selling up!

Maybe that can be the catalyst we are all looking for.

It certainly isn’t more of Ashton .., 35 years not good enough (at that level).

So let’s have some integrity and park the fantasies.

We haven’t progressed this past 12 months, we’ve just lost most of our staff, can’t replace them because we are for sale, and our 5 best players have all gone.

One or two more might follow.

All our young talent has left .., we have the ones left people don’t think will ever make the jump, and that’s probably about right.

We have a VERY talented coach, who has proven he isn’t a very talented strategist and manager (at that level).

New ownership that can hopefully bring in experience off the pitch is still a fantastic opportunity, and we still have a talented EFL group, and that’s reason to be optimistic.

We missed a generational opportunity with Delap and Hutchinson because McKenna thought he could spend well over £100 million on EFL talent and prove he could coach the gap.

Thats ego, and he was miles off the levels he thought he was at…, miles off.

Leeds will spend less, are signing only proven players with loads of top division experience and may well also be relegated.

But they’ll have spent less…, and not have our liabilities, and have a better side than us by a distance.

So let’s stop dreaming and have some honesty, even if it doesn’t feel great.

Omari .., gone forever I’m afraid, and our senior management team don’t deserve him.., we made SO many poor decisions, and we still are.

No wonder Gamechanger would rather fold their hand…, they’ve lost faith in Ashton and don’t have the desire to put it right.

Onwards.

There is so much wrong with this post.....

We didn't only sign EFL players - Phillips, Muric, O'Shea, Johnson, Enciso, Cajuste all have played in top divisions. yes they didn't bring what we hoped for but the statement is false.

We have not made a financial 'mess' - we have recouped most of our 2024 outlay with 2 sales. In 2 years we have gone from dealing with loans and sub £1m deals to selling 2 players in excess of £30m

We are not for sale. This move is about bringing yet more investment into the club.

The team currently is better than that one that got promoted 12 months ago (albeit with a few signings still required). So there has been a huge development in 12 months.

Gamechanger doesn't have faith in MA?? Yet have just sanctioned a £9m purchase in the Championship and more will follow

A bit of realism about how far we have come is needed here
