Good player McConnell. Very progressive, looks to carry the ball forwards a lot before picking out his pass. Was given a start in the champions league last season. Slot very keen on him, hence the new deal and is fancied I think a bit more than Morton.

Good player. Only question mark is age and inexperience. If we took him on loan might that be with a mind to loan Humphreys to a champ team for the year. That would make a lot of sense to be fair. I think Cam played really well and can make squads this season however he's not going to get big minutes and maybe we send him out to play regularly for a season to keep his progress going.
I'd prefer him to stay to be honest but having two very young midfielders is a risk. | |

I was going to say the same re. your final paragraph.
He's got a touch of the Hutchinson's about him re. loan. Hot, hot prospect that needs to be a regular in and around a senior Championship squad to progress.
If we signed him on loan plus Hackney or another of that ilk I imagine we'd be pretty well covered, especially with Humphreys looking more like a man this summer. | | | |

Yep I think if there is anything in this, it would be McConnell and one more maybe even 2 more who we would pay a good fee for with more experience.
I thought Cam looked good in the friendly and he is versatile which might help his case. I just wonder what his role will be. He wont be starting games for us I don't imagine, whereas a guy like McConnell looks ready for Championship football based on his showings for Liverpool and how he is spoken about there and probably would be. Is that good for his development. Tough one. | |

I think that U-21 loans still count towards squad sizes, so we would need to buy him outright if we wanted him to be outside of the 25 man squad.
Without knowing much about the lad it seems like a good pick-up. If we can bring in someone like Hackney as well, a trio of McConnell, Taylor and Humphries feels like sufficiently strong back up for a promotion push.

U21 loans count towards the squad numbers. It's only U21 that we "own" that don't count toward the 25 man squad limit. |  | | |

I'm not convinced we'll look to carry 5 CMs, especially as Johnson and Clarke can cover there in a pinch. McKenna likes to have 8 players for the 3 in behind the striker, we'll have 8 defenders in the squad, 3 keepers and ideally 3 forwards. Doesn't leave room to carry 5 CMs, we're already in the realms of needing an under 21 for one of those roles if we have 4 CMs in the squad I think. |  |

The ideal is an Omari situation. Probably for both clubs. Talked to some Liverpool mates today. Very highly rated and hope would be helpful makes it there however with the current rules there is a quite a heavy incentive to sell young talent. If he does well, we go up and they would be looking at £20+ mil and that's all basically 100% against psr.
PSR is a good thing mostly but really don't like the way it makes young talent pawns to trade basically. | |

I don’t know anything about him tbh, but you would hope that if we are interested in him, he’s seen as a serious upgrade on Cam, otherwise as you say what’s the point? | |
