Ashley Young set to sign... on 11:43 - Jul 21 with 4396 views | Big_Jase | One of Clarke or Johnson to move on then you would think. Think it’s a good signing personally, great experience and still playing semi regularly last year in the premier league. Would imagine he’s here with a view to moving into coaching as well?

Ashley Young set to sign... on 11:45 - Jul 21 with 4269 views | GavITFC | I’m alright with this. Will give us some good balance down that side. Solid and as far as I’m aware pretty fit and played regularly last season.

He was one of Everton's best performers last year. Good signing.
Ashley Young set to sign... on 11:46 - Jul 21 with 4223 views | Nutkins_Return | just turned 40. As a coach really like this. As a player at 40 I'm really not sure about this. It's no exactly progressive though he can do a job. I hope it's more a view to the coaching side but the article suggests decent wages. [Post edited 21 Jul 11:46]

He's still fit as a fiddle and played loads for Everton last season. Leader with a nasty streak too. Needed with Morsy off.

Don't worry about his age, this guy will be Young all of his life

Not sure that matters particularly, he's not coming to solve a next 5 years problem. If he's good for the next 9 months that's a win. Played a lot of football for Everton last season, I think his experience and leadership qualities will be invaluable too.

That's very true...as a similar age profile it's pretty inspiring. I think I've stayed quite fit and still play....but I'm hobbling around for days after playing 🤣. He has really looked after himself. I'm sure he will do well. Just one where it is a one year and out (coaching with us hopefully) scenario. [Post edited 21 Jul 11:53]

Suspect he is in addition and brought in for his experience. Can't see Johnson or Clarke going given their relative age compared to Young

I don't disagree. He'll have 100% support from me. Just prefer a younger player who can progress with us. But trust McKenna and we need some experience with .orsy going. That's a lot of experience haha. Think if he goes on to stay and coach that's a great thing as well.

Played as a trialist for the youth team a couple weeks back...

Ashley Young set to sign... on 11:59 - Jul 21 with 3340 views | itfcsuth | If one of Johnson (more likely) or H.Clarke are moving on, then think it's a pretty decent signing. If not, it's a pretty pointless signing. Been some player throughout his career though.

Only 7 of our players played more PL minutes than him last season and that includes Delap, Morsy, Hutchinson and Cajuste so potentially only 3 of the remaining squad

Pretty low risk as well you would think. Of course he'll be earning a wage but on a free, presumably a 1 year deal, can't see a huge amount of downside risk even if he's keeping Burns seat warm for 6 months while he works his way back. Versatility is very valuable too, the sort of player I can see making 20 appearances but having an impact far greater than that on 'the group'.

Neither Johnson or Clarke has been massively trusted by McKenna at right back in the past and squad places are at a premium so not a chance we will be carrying 3 right backs. Johnson has some premier league links, we signed Williams to displace Clarke in our promotion season and then Tuanzebe was preferred to him as well. I don’t think it’s a massive stretch to say he’s not massively rated by McKenna.

Ashley Young set to sign... on 12:08 - Jul 21 with 2871 views | Westcountryblue | As experienced cover, fine. But i think it would be a real back step to let Johnson go. He has the engine and pace to be a really effective RB/RWB at this level and can get up and down the line. Harry Clarke i'd assume/hope would be the one to make way. A bit of strange signing to be honest. Jury is out on this one, as it is with a few decisions the club has made this summer. Not entirely convinced.

100%. Clarke won't be here on September 1st.
Ashley Young set to sign... on 12:09 - Jul 21 with 2819 views | bsw72 | Huge amount of experience and knowledge, but no coaching badges currently. Worth noting he played over 30 games in the PL last season - more than Tuanzebe . . . Edit: Forgot that he would have been in the Utd first team when McKenna was there, so worked together before. There can't be many times a player in the Championship is older than his manager . . . [Post edited 21 Jul 12:12]
