I don’t fully understand why he wasn’t allowed to leave at the end of the window or at least once we had secured adequate midfield depth ahead of season. However I do get the season hasn’t started and we probably wanted to allow the team to move beyond as they start the season. Depth wise it seems odd at this moment in time.

I can think of nearly 100,000 reasons why letting him go 3 weeks earlier made sense. Especially if he was definitely going anyway.

If you are talking about saving on his salary, he was under contract so surely he would be paid until his contract ended or another club came in. I’m not sure ‘letting him go’ comes into it. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

I haven’t got the inside track, but surely being released from his contract so he can sign for someone else works both ways. Given we were doing it as a semi favour then I wouldn’t expect us to be paying him up until the day before his Kuwaiti debut.

Someone has to start the transfer ball rolling. I think McKenna felt Morsy's time was up anyway so letting him go made sense, as long as he can bring in an upgrade as a replacement.
I think Hackney is just playing us on the hope that a PL club comes in for him & I hope we have a plan B.

The lack of contingency, in the context of spending up to £150 million, is massively poor from everyone concerned. Owners, Mark and KM.

We clearly didn’t see EFL as likely. And to not have a player in the building in a squad our size, costing this much, for two roles KM builds his team around is a real blind spot in terms of strategy.

Even if he stayed, and Mass did too, they’re 34 and 35 in a few weeks…, we’ve known for years they need replacing.

Why didn’t we buy Haciney last summer…, he maybe wouldn’t play as much but a great contingency if we go down, and huge potential if we stay up.

Or insert any young DM with potential.

It’s a frightening set of circumstances…, because it’s instructive that all out stakeholders believed the hype last summer, and thought McKenna was world class.

Great coach, clearly, but also equally short in some of the strategic management skills required.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a team with our resources and nd up in this space…., maybe Arsenal not having a striker for 2 years. But guess EFL midfielders are easier to find than world class strikers.

Anyway, guess we can judge at the end of the window.

Personally think McKenna needs help off the pitch …, he clearly loves being in the training ground…, Ashton alone can’t be left to do everything else, it clearly isn’t elite enough.

"Anyway, guess we can judge at the end of the window."

If you're going to judge them at the end of the window then why do you post almost daily criticising the club, the staff, the recruitment both last season and this season?

Because he’s a troll, probably Norwich, certainly sad and not the sharpest chisel in the box. Best ignored.

.....it's Cajuste/Phillips/Luongo and Delap that we haven't replaced yet.

Birmingham will be licking their lips at the thought of Hirst/AAH and Matusiwa + Taylor/Humphries.

Meh. Bring it on.

Take a draw.

That's a very weird take.

Jack Taylor is, at the very least, a respectable Championship midfielder.

Azor Matusiwa looks to be (and Kieran McKenna believes him to be) a very good Championship midfielder.

So our Central Midfield, with no further signings, is better than average for the Championship. And it isn't our strongest department, currently.

George Hirst has proven himself to be much better than most "Hold the ball up, bring others into play" Championship strikers. Ali had a decent loan spell at Stoke last year, and I am hopeful that he will have a breakout season for us this year, but the jury is out currently.

But no Central Defensive partnership in the Championship would look at 60 to 70 minutes of Hirst battling, holding the ball up, moving about to create space, and laying the ball off to overlapping wide men, and then being followed by 30 minutes of Ali charging around, pressing and running at them, as an easy afternoon.

And then there are the other three attackers (plus Leif) for them to worry about.

A draw away to Birmingham obviously isn't a disaster. But I want a win!

You still haven't explained how McBurnie ran rings around Bellingham last season when they only shared the same pitch for 20 minutes and Madrid were winning 4-1.

You also claimed the owners promised player sales of 100 million this summer but have failed to show where anyone promised anything.

It's almost like you're making stuff up in every post.
