Looks like Akpom can potentially play in all our 4 attacking roles 21:18 - Aug 10 with 3039 viewsunstableblue

Hirst is our number one centre forward

I don’t see Akpom being a sub to replace Hirst at 70mins

Wonder which position he’ll end up taking?

He seems versatile:
Forward (Centre) 19
Attacking Midfielder (Centre) 19
Forward (Right) 7
Forward (Left) 4
Attacking Midfielder (Right) 1

We needed this versatility - looking forward to seeing him play

My guess is Akpom will allow us to let Broady go unfortunately (but profitably)

Semper fidelis!

Where we are short is LB, CMf, RW and Striker and two of those he doesnt do! He must fill the gap that Enciso covered and now Broady creates when he leaves. That would mean unless Akpom really can be the RW player, OH stays otherwise we need RW, Striker, LB and CMf.

Nice signing but much to do!

We are not short of a left back, we are short of left back cover, similarly we are short of cover for a defensive midfielder (or a defensive midfielder if Matusiwa doesn't quite work out as a potential Premiership player.) We don't know if we are light on the right until we see how Ogbene beds in this season and if Burns can make a successful return from injury. Now that Akpom has signed I am fairly comfortable with our attacking options - Hirst as hold up and mid range shot finisher, Akpom as a danger everywhere upfront, Szmodics as the skirmisher behind those two, Jack Clarke as the lock picker who can also cut in from the wing and shoot, Al-Hamadi as the surprise package late on...Jack Taylor for the occasional worldie.

If the right players are available at the right price on the right wages (and if Hackney can be a persuasion to Omari to stay and build a Championship winning team that can make a go of staying in the Premiership next season) then, yes, sign them up before the window closes. But otherwise keep our powder dry and see what we need to finish the job in January.

Plays 70 minutes at Inside Forward, then switches to Striker for the final 20 when we bring on someone to play behind him?

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

The annoying thing about McKenna is his strength that however Akpom is deployed or moved about on here, McK will play him where he sees him playing, and that will be it.

It might be sacrilegious to say it but I think KMcK wants a 'better' no.9 than Hirst and we'll still be trying to find one.

And if we sell Omari and Broady, we should have the necessary funds to achieve that (and maybe Hackney too, if the boat is being pushed well and truly out).

I think we'll take on loan a youngster striker from a Premiership club, like Dane Scarlett before as 3rd or 4th choice. And AAH has August now to prove himself a solid backup striker in our squad or go out on loan again to build it up.

He came on and a really good move broke down when it ended up at his feet. Small margins in this game, and I’m not really comfortable with him being the person them big moments could fall to.
I’m sure others will be, but unsure what that is based on if I’m honest.

We’ll be good again... one day

Sounds like it is based upon the on loan young striker from a Premiership club not being Dane Scarlett to me...

It does feel now we can bring in a decent striker as opposed to a third choice barely-to-be-used striker. Akpom as a 10 means a new striker can get decent minutes sharing with Hirst.
Still a bit of business left to do. Akpom's versatility is pretty handy.

Why do we need another 9 when CA has shown his excellence in that position (on the 8 minute video clip) and will rotate with GH, or they’ll be cover for each other?

We certainly don’t need another 10, DM is far more important to get in right now.

I don't think the 9 is as important now, I think it's now Hirst and Akpom as our striking with Ali a very competent third option.

I think we absolutely do need a 10. Akpom isn't a creative player.

I can't work out whether I think Hackney would be that 10 or not. I think he's a better CM, but McKenna likes both the CMs to be more defensively minded.

Perhaps Hackney is still the top target.

I'm going round in circles in my head here.

Humphries wowed Wycombe playing as a 10.
