“Resting” players tomorrow night 21:15 - Aug 11 with 1326 views | Wallingford_Boy | I find that a very odd expression, 1 game into the season! I would think most could do with another 90 in their legs after fridays performance, especially as we don’t play until Sunday. Use the game to improve the first team. Resting players indeed….

“Resting” players tomorrow night on 21:18 - Aug 11 with 1276 views | catch74 | I imagine the need to not have certain players injured in a match they shouldn’t need to play in is the key. Hirst & Matusiwa in particular.

“Resting” players tomorrow night on 21:21 - Aug 11 with 1241 views | Joey_Joe_Joe_Junior | This is almost as bad as your playing in lightning take. You realize you have to build up to match fitness as well right? We just had a ridiculously high intensity game Friday night and already have some injuries to deal with in key areas, while still actively working on new recruits. Do you want to put our first team out against a League 2 side or will also be up for playing a newly relegated PL team? They could make it quite physical for us I should imagine. There is a reason a lot of higher ranked teams go out of this competition in August. Not a game we need to overly focus on. It's not 1981, this should be as close to a C team as possible let alone first team. [Post edited 11 Aug 21:27]

“Resting” players tomorrow night on 21:25 - Aug 11 with 1183 views | Nthsuffolkblue | It's a combination of not giving players an unnecessary extra workload in a 3-game week and giving those who didn't play a chance to gain more match fitness. This is coupled with the fact it shouldn't need our full first team to get through. It should also be noted that historically when we have put a stronger team out against a supposedly weaker side we often haven't played well even then. I get the argument that we should want to win and progress but there is no denying that the league is the priority.

B team should be enough and as I get older a decent cup run would be nice. There is always the argument thatnow isn't the time for a Cup run as our priority is promotion. But when is a good time, as it is often argued against be that when we we looking to go up, avoid going down or overreaching and staying midtable in the Championship under ME.

It's also a bit more embarrassing if you put your strongest team out and they don't perform, can dent confidence I'm sure, which as we know it very important..

I think the “storm” take was 100% accurate and you’re the only person I’ve met to disagree! lol But I do see both sides of the argument here, but for me I’d rather we got used to playing together.

“Resting” players tomorrow night on 21:37 - Aug 11 with 1057 views | _clive_baker_ | Pick the team for Sunday and work back from there. Use tomorrow if the minutes will benefit Sunday, don’t if they’ll compromise it. I can see an argument for getting 30-45 minutes and a bit of sharpness into Akpom, Young, Ogbene etc but only in service of the weekend.
“Resting” players tomorrow night on 05:49 - Aug 12 with 653 views | PioneerBlue | I don’t know about resting. Finding a way to out a cohesive XI out on the pitch my be a place to start given our off the field messing around and injury build up.

“Resting” players tomorrow night on 08:10 - Aug 12 with 409 views | slade1 | I remember the old days where a team would get fined by the FA for fielding 'weakened' teams in matches.

“Resting” players tomorrow night on 08:30 - Aug 12 with 331 views | GlasgowBlue | We need these cup games to give fringe players game time. It keeps them happy and it keeps them fit should they need to come into the team.

“Resting” players tomorrow night on 08:39 - Aug 12 with 308 views | lurcher | Whilst rest implies that players could be tired, there is more to it. If a player has knock or is considered close to picking one up through analysis of his stats from training and the Birmingham game, then they can be left out to mitigate risk. Also the case that players need to time away to sort out their home life, especially true for recent acquisitions. We like many sides don't much care for this cup, it is an unwelcome distraction. And more often than not a scratch side with blooded U21 players should see us through,
“Resting” players tomorrow night on 09:31 - Aug 12 with 236 views | RIPbobby | I don't think it is resting players as such. It is more giving the fringe players exposure to 90 competitive minutes in a match we would like to win. We have injuries and are going to get more. We need replacements to be able to come in and be match ready when this happens. Stiffs football does not do this so well. [Post edited 12 Aug 9:34]

“Resting” players tomorrow night on 09:36 - Aug 12 with 207 views | BlueBlood90 | I agree with the sentiment, but I'd be furious if Matusiwa or Hirst were to get injured in such an unimportant game. I would like to see the likes of Young, Akpom and Cajuste getting some minutes that they need.

“Resting” players tomorrow night on 09:58 - Aug 12 with 113 views | southnorfolkblue | Ive always felt the same and that it’s been a missed opportunity to build some cohesion in the starting 11. But if you think of it more about avoiding injuries than rest it starts to make more sense. We have plenty of players who have mixed injury records, who ought to be managed. That’s why I’d be surprised to see the likes of Hirst start
