Regardless of the 1 in 1 out Labour policy Gimmick that has absolutely no chance of working

1600 people have arrived in 4 days in 26 boats

If the sea remains calm this will be the norm certainly for August/september

Macron has completely mugged Starmer off. No wonder he was kissing and hugging Kier

The French want rid of the Migrant camps and won’t be happy until they are all gone.

The only thing that will stop the boats is the Weather.

The current Government or who ever is in charge needs to come clean and admit there is no answer

It won’t be long until we see 100,000 a year arriving by this method

I totally get it that everyone wants to live in a perceived Civilised society but how the hell do we pay for it

The Tories created a 22 billion black hole over 14 years the Labour Party have created a 50 billion black hole in 12 months!!!!!!

Mullett I am sorry but you do tend to insult people if they agree with your view you have done and do it to me all the time.

The sad thing is I don’t think you are even aware of what you are doing

One t please old boy.

I was accused of name-calling incorrectly. Given what you’ve written about Rachel Reeves previously, let alone many other people this seems both hypocritical and ironically lacking self awareness.

It’s not insulting to point out if someone is writing abhorrent things. The fact the first thing you typed do is claim to be insulted and make things personal is down to your own poor judgement and ignorance.

Your threads are often insulting, if people don’t like being called far right, Nazis or racist, then don’t be. I’m fully aware of what I write and do, the facts others haven’t been isn’t my problem either.

I think you’re a nasty piece of work who’s been indoctrinated and holds sh1t views. I’m not going to apologise for that or pretend we are equal in that sense.

I'm spending so much time in your head you should start charging me rent.

i'm just loving the hypocrisy. it's a master class. that and civil, ingenuous and honest debate of course.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

i suspect, that outside of your little gang, people can see exactly what you are. amongst other things, given the line you've been spinning, a little bit of a fraud. but do have a very nice evening.

Agree totally with the middle paragraph.

Very good report from HSBC out today about our ageing population — bit wordy, but the below was enlightening.

Triple lock needs to be amended and means tested. Apparently it now costs THREE times what it was expected to be!

"Pension ages across the world are very hard to move, and are rarely moved at any speed. The highest in the world is 67 (in Australia and Sweden amongst a few others; the UK on course to reach the same level over the next few years). Some, however, are pushing higher, with Denmark making a recent shift to raise it to 70 by 2040 as a result of the policy of tying retirement age to life expectancy, and now lifting the retirement age by one year every five years.

However, as outlined above, 70 is probably the minimum needed to even get close to getting pensioner to non-pensioner ratios back into check. As a result, on paper, public pensions may have to get much less generous – a challenge as, although many pensioners are wealthy, poverty rates for others are already high: according to OECD data, between 10–20% of over 65s have incomes below 50% of median household incomes in most OECD economies. As a result, any cuts to pension amounts would need to protect the most vulnerable, or at least be means tested.

At the very least, governments are likely to need to consider limiting how much pensions rise. In the UK, the ‘triple lock’ on pensions means that the state pension rises each year by the highest rate out of inflation, wage growth, or 2.5%. This is now set to cost three times more than it was initially estimated.

But raising the retirement age is now more plausible (at least in theory) than ever before – given the shift in the nature of work away from physical to more service-heavy roles, we could see workers more likely to be able to stay in the workforce until they’re 70 or 75. As charts 24 and 25 show, this would almost entirely reset the demographic pyramid problem. Trimming the value of pensions may also encourage people to stay in the workforce for longer – although if people have been able to accumulate large private pensions, they are likely to retire earlier. As a result, some sort of means testing to state pensions may be needed."

I don't totally agree that the Triple lock is unsustainable even though I am a pensioner.
But when you are allowing thousands of illegal immigrants in and giving them hotel rooms, food and money when they haven't paid into the system to make pensions means tested would be totally wrong.
Although the government classes a State pension as a benefit there are no other benefits where you have to pay in for 35 years to receive the full amount.
Coming up to my retirement it was 44 years of paying N.I.
If you make State pensions means tested for fairness it would have to start when introduced and not affect those already in receipt as it would cause undue hardship if applied to those receiving less than someone on a minimum wage doing a 38 hour week.
Currently because the personal allowance was frozen by Sunak anyone receiving more than £12,570 pays tax. I bet there's not any MP's who would/could live on that amount.
It has been said that in order to have a comfortable existence a couple needs an income of £38,000 a year.
On the radio a few months ago a person who phoned in who could have claimed P.I.P. didn't as he preferred to work. But was told if he didn't work he could receive an income of £24,000 a year and many things that working people cannot get are freely available to those on benefits.
I'm not having a go at genuine claimants by the way.

With inflation expected to peak in September at 4% under triple lock pensions will increase by a minimum of 4% next April. The third indicator used is average wage increase. They use the period May - July and compare it with same period last year,

Those figures will presumably be released by September. The last publish figures were for May and increase, year on year, was 5%.

If wage inflation for May-July rises by 5.5% then every pensioner on the new state pension , with no other income are perilously close to having to pay income tax.

That would be crazy.

I have been a pensioner for 14 years, on the old basic pension which is £50 less a week.

I do have other pensions but if means testing was introduced it would be the equivalent of paying extra tax.

"Don't be so stupid" was your first response to me on this thread for presenting you with facts - it seems it's you think it's ok to abuse people who don't agree with you. All whilst accusing me of doing that when I haven't.

It's weird how you can't even accept what you are and what you write.
