What is his current situation?
I can’t see many Prem offers coming his way, didn’t exactly set the world alight last year.

Would it get to the point where Man City would be happy with a reasonable championship figure type loan fee… would that be a consideration or even a possibility??

Comes to us (falls back in love with the game (again, again), has an amazing season, the new Sam Morsy, we get promoted and buy him.. the rest is history!

… Or should I just really get on and do some work! 😆😬

Pretty sure he’s injured again.

Going to be one of those players who just drift out of the game unfortunately. Retired by 32.

Injured, but looks like he just started kicking a ball today.

Wouldn't be surprised if he comes back, he likes everything Ipswich on Instagram haha.

I still rate him, its just he would have to take a huge paycut.

I believe he had an operation in the summer to fix the issue that restricted his game time last season.

Would be a ridiculous signing in the Championship if he is fully fit but stranger things have happened.

Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over

Don't think he'd take a cut, probably just a case of his loan club contributing less to his salary to City. He must be laughing at the fact he's still got about 13 years left on his £5m a year City contract.

Do reckon he'll head out on loan somewhere though, it's got Burnley panic signing on deadline day written all over it.

I did have the same thought yesterday.

Seemed to be a decent pro.

We would almost need to have him at zero cost for it to be worth considering though.

Funnily enough, I reckon youve undercooked his salary there!!

Besiktas seems a good fit.

IMO Phillips was unfairly lambasted last year, based purely on the evaluation of 'value'. And that value determination was based on a complete assumption on how much of his wages we were paying.

These assumptions may or may not have been true, and we didn't see enough minutes from him, but when he did play there were many glimpses of his ability.

If he's completely fit, and the deal was reasonable, I'd have him back.

He'd be daft to take they paycut tbh.

If I were him, i'd just get the best loan moves I could until my City contract expired, then go from there.

I don't think he's ever getting back to being a Prem player.

Yeah, he wont be taking a pay cut.

He would only do that if City paid him off.

He does however need to find a way to get his career back on track. Maybe a move abroad.

But I agree with the rest.

All hypothetical of course but I'd have him back.
A good player. Admittedly we only saw in flashes of what he could do but I thought he was playing himself into some good form before his ridiculous sending off.

Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

I’d have him back. Think he could do a job here and be happy at the same time. If we could keep him fit for most of the season he would be a great signing.

I don't rate him, think he has lost the appetite for it. We need people who are up for it, desperate for success, would walk through hot coals for a promotion <etc>

I'm not so sure. I think he just had that laconic style that some people have.
I can't say I really picked up those vibes he'd lost the appetite.
All hypothetical though!

I respect your opinion but please please please no.

We can afford to take a risk with Jens, we absolutely cannot afford to the same for the Matusiwa competition.

If he could stay fit and we could come to an agreement regarding wages then maybe. I expect that McKenna hoped that Cajuste / Phillips would be our regular central partnership last season.

I thought he was going to be a great signing last season…was convinced under McKenna and with regular game time we’d see something of the pre Man City Phillips.

Unfortunately he just couldn’t stay fit long enough and every time he started to show glimpses of quality he got injured.

Really difficult to see where he goes from here. If he did have a longstanding injury that’s been sorted and can now stay fit I wouldn’t be against giving him another chance but only on loan with no silly wages. Just can’t see it happening though. A run of games could see some real improvement.

I think what we saw was a terrific footballer who'd been broken by Guardiola and that vile club, and who was starting to recover under KMc. A little more time, fewer armchair managers who see the game through Sky-tinted glasses and there would be a wonderful club player there.

He wouldn't have to take a pay cut. City are contractually obliged to pay Phillips his huge wages until 2028. The only issues will be (1) do we want him (2) does he want to come here on loan (3) can we reach agreement with City as to how much of his wages we pay.
As he's had surgery on an achilles, I wouldn't take a chance on him & I doubt anyone else will, given his form & injury record over the past 2 seasons.
