Must be one of the most intelligent, courteous, cultured players in the game today. We do set an incredibly low bar for judging a footballers character though... explaining a red card and consoling a fellow pro. Nice touches, and commendable, but its a shame that we pick them out as being exceptional. |  |

On top of that, he has to be one of the top defenders of all time, absolutely commanding presence. I originally started following his progress at Celtic, you could see he had a huge future. Was suprised that he had to take a smaller step to Southampton before a top club. Even as a youngster he had Real Madrid or Barcelona level written all over him. I think it's completely unacceptable for a Ref to (almost) run into a bloke who's about to take a penalty.
Regardless of any reaction or excuse for a bad penalty, he absolutely needs to know how to run around someone. And the Ref should absolutely apologise. |  | | |
