Woolfenden - McK BBC Interview on 19:37 - Aug 30 by pointofblue | To me, he's been reliable. To you, he's a liability. I have less faith in O'Shea and Greaves. You have more. I guess football is a game of opinions. |
If we are leaking goals each week so easily then clearly our current cb pairing is still not right. But i am damn sure woolfie is not the long term answer either, not if we want to build a premier league squad.

Woolfenden - McK BBC Interview on 20:04 - Aug 30 by _clive_baker_ | I don’t really understand why we’ve not sold him and signed a replacement if he’s wanted to leave for a some time. There’s absolutely no point keeping players who don’t want to be here. |
I think it's been handled very badly by the club. I can only think his status as club-developed has meant we've wanted to hold on to him, to allow us to move Humpheys out on loan but still have nine subs. That's why we haven't taken the Broadhead approach of letting him go. It feels like it's all come to a head now, though. I wonder whether we'll go back with a better offer for Caceres?

Woolfenden performed decently in the Premier League last year, though I do think he's better in a back three. To me, he's no worse than O'Shea or Greaves and we didn't have to spend seven figures to get him.

How did what work? ETA: The registration doesn't come into affect until after the transfer window closes but, even when it does, Woolfenden (or Humphreys) would just need to be part of the 25-man squad to allows us to have nine subs. Not part of the 20 man matchday squad. [Post edited 30 Aug 20:33]

Woolfenden is a lovely player, and one I really enjoy watching. It will be a real shame if he goes (I know he's going), because he will be the last of the players I REALLY enjoy watching play gone. Broadhead, Hutchinson, Delap, Luongo, Morsy and Axel. Hopefully the new batch will step up. Never been convinced by O'Shea though, even though he is awesome in the air.

Woolfenden - McK BBC Interview on 20:23 - Aug 30 with 824 views | SWLondonBlue93 | I presume by "some time", he means from the moment O'Shea was given a new long-term contract, and then the captaincy. It was clear at that point there was no route back into the team.

Admittedly being pedantic but McGreal brought him back in upon Cook's departure. McKenna did stick with him upon his arrival.

Woolfenden - McK BBC Interview on 19:53 - Aug 30 by Kieran_Knows | Putting aside whether it’s right or wrong him not being in the side, if he has ‘wanted to leave for some time’ then why on earth did he sign a new contract just 7 months ago? Baffling from him and his agent. |
Maybe he thought he would be given a chance. But as Ive said before most mgrs once they name a captain, they play that player irrelevant of performance. Hence Woolf, is now probably thinking, I'm never going to get chance unless O'Shea is injured, even if I'm on the subs bench, and even if O'Shea performances are shlt

I think that is a fair enough comment, but to me it means we have still not got the right cb”s at the club Shame the Uruguay one fell through, he looks class

Woolfenden - McK BBC Interview on 20:33 - Aug 30 with 717 views | tetchris | If he wants to leave then let him go and use the money to sign someone else. I don’t think the Caceres deal is completely dead. It’s gamesmanship, we made an offer his club rejected it but then came back with a counter proposal. The deal is there to be done somewhere in-between what they want and what we want to pay etc.

I wonder if we'll go back in for him now, and accept defeat in keeping Woolfenden here. We haven't been linked with anyone else.

He plays too relaxed and makes mistakes. Everyone's forgot that because they want something to moan about.

The mistakes he maekes are exagerrated and over-blown. Especially considering it feels like I'm the only one who's pointing out the errors O'Shea made today, which I cannot recall Woolfenden doing for quite a while, which cost us two points.

Woolfenden - McK BBC Interview on 19:11 - Aug 30 by homer_123 | He's a quality ball playing CB. For whatever reasons KM hasn't ever really trusted him. |
The reason is simple. Stat wise he doesn't win alot of heaers. Loses alot of duels etc. He's a ball playing cb and a bloody good one. But defending itself isn't his strong point which is a problem as a cb.

Whereas O'Shea was exceptional at winning headers and duels today. Edit: Sorry, but the usual suspects would be absolutely slaughtering Woolfenden if he put in that kind of performance today, and not unreasonably either. [Post edited 30 Aug 20:48]

No he isn't. He rarely finds a player with his passes and he is very ponderous on the ball. do agree not the best defender. Part of a team that shipped loads of goals, we were just very good in attack at the time

Osheas stats speak for themselves. He's head and shoulders above wolfy on those specific stats. But as said a while ago. I still don't think we'd be worse off with the same squad we got promoted with. It had problems but it worked. Now we have problems that won't work

I think it's fair to say the squad which won double promotion was greater than the sum of it's parts. Now we have one which is lesser. I honestly don't think we'd be much worse off with Woolfenden and Burgess at the back at this present time.
