Didn’t realize for their Pen until I’ve watched it back 23:22 - Aug 30 with 2589 viewsJoey_Joe_Joe_Junior

Just how badly Palmer is in no man’s land! As poor as it is that the runner had that much space, Davis is covering and it would have been probably a decent but difficult chance rather than a clear 1:1.

Ugh every goal conceded this year we’ve played such a major a part in and usually not just one player either!

Look, we need to make do with a steady, experienced, mid-table championship level keeper. We’ve never had millions to spend on a keeper. I’m sure if we did we’d invest it wisely. Anyway, all the best teams, especially those who like to play out from the back, make do with an adequate keeper - Liverpool, Man City, Arsenal. You’ve only got to look at Man U now or Spurs last season to realise how unimportant it is to have a top level goalie.

We clearly had 8 million to spend on a keeper last season and didn’t invest it particularly wisely. And to say that keepers like Alisson and Ederson are no more than adequate is just ridiculous. Also I think Onana has shown Man Utd exactly how important it is to have a decent keeper.
Apart from that I agree with everything you’ve said.

I would say that great goalkeepers are few and far between. The one's that come to mind and there doesn't seem to be many today are Bert Trautmann, Lev Yashin, Gordon Banks, Peter Shilton, Pat Jennings, Peter Schmeichel, David Seaman, Petr Cech.
I have probably missed a few but many seem to be of yesteryear.
Having been a goalkeeper in my younger days it's not an easy position to play, knowing where you goal is, positional sense, when to come out and claim a ball.
It has also been a position where so much has changed as with the keeper being an eleventh outfield player, able to pass out from the back both short and long balls whereas it used to involve a long punt upfield and bouncing the ball in your penalty area for minutes rather than seconds.
Perhaps not enough effort is put into the training and the overall value of a keeper who tends to be of much less value than a centre forward.

So far this season, Palmer seems to be the least of our problems.

I'll repeat myself for the hundredth time, Muric should be between the sticks.

But agree with other points made that the GK is not the biggest concern currently.

It is a massive concern if we want to play through the pitch. I wasn’t Hladky’s biggest fan, but his ability to open up midfields/defences from his own box was a massive reason we was able to be successful the last time we was in the Championship. Palmer is absolutely nowhere near that level, and he’s hardly a good shot stopper either.

Poll: We’ve got super KM, he knows exactly what we need. Woolfie at the back…

….but Palmer just never looks like he’s gonna make anything other than the most basic of saves.

Certainly not a save that is going to “surprise” you anyway.

Any one on one he faces is basically a goal, as is any shot vaguely in the corners.

He’s just a bang average goalminder at the very best.

This is obviously just my opinion, other opinions are available.

I agree with this, broadly. Certainly doesn’t seem to have something in him of the standard Norwich’s new keeper pulled out yesterday. Or if he does, he’s kept it in his locker ever since Villa away.

Is another one of those TWTD jokes or just being ignorant?

We have spent 10M on the position in under a year and ended up with him.

9M can get you a Robin Roefs.
