The mighty Loons, Forfar Athletic !!!!!
supported them for around 52 years from when I was 10, sent a letter to the then programme editor David McGregor who replied with some complimentary programmes which I then proceeded to collect until I had every One ever produced, sadly they stopped producing a programme some seasons back.

David became a bit of a pen friend, I met him when I went up to Station park back in the early Eighties for a game against Clyde which we won 4-2.

Forfar are definitely in my Blood and have seen some great times including cup semi finals, promotions etc etc.

Another Loon!!!

St Johnstone possibly because the played in blue whilst o was young and as town fan always felt it right to go with an underdog

I saw us play St Johnstone at home in the first leg of the Texaco Cup which we went on to win in 1973.

hibs for sunshine on leith!

Same. What a tune when sang by fans in a stadium. A song unique to that club, rather than one hijacked with no real link.

Who’s the pride of Angusshire Forfar Forfar etc etc etc

Who’s the shot of Angusshire Montrose, Abroath, Brechin (chant as applicable)

Leaving aside football rivalries, who doesn't like a Forfar Bridie or an Arbroath Smokie?

I have a soft spot for Motherwell. I went on a stag do in Edinburgh during the mid-90's and we decided to take in a game. Hearts were at home against The 'Well. We rocked up on the day, bought tickets in the away end and sat among the few hundred Motherwell fans who were very bemused by a dozen English lads wearing a mixture of Ipswich, Spurs, Arsenal etc. shirts. By the end of the game we had been introduced to the pleasures of Buckfast and they were all our best friends

It was written by two Hibs fans who went to the same school in Fife as my mother. In addition, my father's parents were born in Leith, so I feel a particular emotional connection to both Hibs and that song. Indeed, it's a song I would have played at my funeral.

I might add that my father didn't live in an area with a football team and played rugby, so he didn't himself follow a particular Scottish club that I would probably have ended up supporting had he done so.

Forfar bridies are just gorgeous, I doubt there can be a better meat pie at any Football ground, there are a few poor imitations but the real Forfar ones are to die for.

Stranraer FC of course. It's one of the oldest clubs in the world yet quite possibly one of the worst.

About 10 years ago I met a bloke from Stranraer while on holiday in Spain. The conversation turned to footy and he asked me if I had a favourite Scottish team. He literally welled up when I said I followed Stranraer.

they could save a lot of points by signing hibs goalie

Having spent good bit of time in Arbroath as a kid, I hate Arbroath Smokies. The smokie as scarred me to the point of barely eating any fish

Inverness Caledonian Thistle! Lots of holidays up that way and the stadium's dead easy to get to :-)

And Terry Butcher used to manage them.

Meadowbank Thistle (RIP) IIRC they became Livingston

Only because I've played on their pitch in the Meadowbank Stadium in the summer of '89 on the hottest day in Scotland for 100 years.

Meadowbank and Livingstone.
For 6 seasons Meadowbank finished bottom and I felt sorry for them.

Have you ever seen this ?

The league cup semi final from Hampden park when the Loons came within seven Minutes of European Football, quite staggering at the time..

And what a goal from Brian Rankin.

Whilst on the topic of Scottish football teams, I find it mildly amusing that in Nigeria they use the terms Dundee & Dundee United to refer to some one as a fool.

Meadowbank Thistle evolved from Ferranti Thistle who I believe started out as an Engineering Company team.

A little known fact is the 1916 Zeppelin bombing of Leith.

https://threadinburgh.scot/2022/09/23/the-thread-about-the-zeppelin-air-raid-tha

It was that which caused my dad's parents and their then three children to relocate to Ayrshire where my father and his other siblings were born. But for that, he would likely have been born in Leith.
