Would you start Hirst tonight? (n/t) on 07:18 - Sep 12 by Nutkins_Return | Yes. And I wouldn't be making him a scapegoat for our start in the first place. We haven't created enough for him. |
We have created enough for him he has just missed every chance he has had. He has been really poor this season so far.

Would you start Hirst tonight? (n/t) on 08:45 - Sep 12 by gsoly | Sums up modern football. Our number nine misses a few chances and then a decent section of the fanbase ask for him to be dropped in favour of... a Spanish striker we've seen play for about 10 minutes. |
I'm glad our manager isn't as reactionary as some of our fans appear to be. Thought Hirst did OK at Brum, and was probably our best player against Southampton. Didn't have the best of games against Derby, certainly should've done better with the header, but he needs our backing and we need him playing with confidence. I'd go with a 3 behind him that have had the past 2 weeks together, Clarke, Akpom and Philogene. Matusiwa and Cajuste in the middle, maybe Nunez for Cajuste. Back 4 of Davis - Greaves - O'Shea - Furlong and Palmer in goal. 9 of that 11 haven't been away on international duty, and dropping Hirst and our captain in to that isn't contentious given they're both well aware of how we want to play.

Would you start Hirst tonight? (n/t) on 09:20 - Sep 12 by JakeITFC | I've heard we had a good week or so with the non-international lads (including a win behind closed doors in a friendly) so I was trying to think what our team might have been for that (not that I think it will start): Palmer Furlong Kipre Greaves Davis Matusiwa Cajuste Philogene Akpom Clarke Azon |
Do you know who we played mate?

Not strictly true is it. A brilliantly worked freekick routine, ended with him unmarked, 5 yards out, and he put it straight into the keepers hands. Of course, no striker scores 100% of his chances, but that was gifted to him on a plate.

Some of the substitutions have been frustratingly late on without sufficient time to make an impact. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I'd rather have AthOn on while Cajuste's still on the pitch.

Would you start Hirst tonight? (n/t) on 09:57 - Sep 12 with 326 views | Guthrum | The only thing currently wrong with Hirst is not getting his shots on target. That's a fairly minor correction (we know he has been able to do it in the past), getting his eye in with regular practice and games. The first one which goes in will likely help with both confidence and calmness in front of goal.

He's joint 3rd in the division for big chances missed (3) and 3rd for xG (2.4). So, relative to other strikers in the division he's getting good chances but not taking them. You can read that as a good thing, he's getting in good positions and if he keeps doing that the goals will come. Don't think his finishing ability has historically been a massive concern.

It was harder than you apparently realise. There was no pace on the ball.

Would you start Hirst tonight? (n/t) on 11:32 - Sep 12 with 109 views | Everydayblue | Yes, I'd start him... There's better competition in the building now for the forward positions. And I'm sure he'll want to up his game as a result of that. I haven't got a problem , either, if KM eventually regularly rotates Hirst and Azon to mix it up a bit. Good players need good players to push them. Hirst has had AAH as competition for most of our early games. I think we'll see him really empty the tank for 60-70 minutes, under KM's instruction. Knowing there are better quality replacements to come on for him, now.

Would you start Hirst tonight? (n/t) on 09:11 - Sep 12 by Cafe_Newman | All the replies are either "yes" to Hirst starting or at the very least stating the reason for his lack of goals is poor service, so, no fault of his. I'm not sure how that equates to "a decent section of our fanbase" asking for him to be dropped, nor how it "sums up modern football". I think "2 + 2 = 9" sums up a decent section of our fanbase's online opinion. |
You'd have a point if this were the only thread (and indeed website) it's ever been mentioned on. And in real life too (bloke behind me at PR wants him dropped).

Who's left not to select then flash Azor is playing Cajuste been playing Nunez is fit Akpom is ready Sammy is injured Hirst not firing. Ivor is fit and ready Mcateer fit and ready Egeli on the bench It's not really a computer game scenario is it? Clarke not playing well. Philogene mixed Johnson not been great Sammy s is injured. Chaplin gone If anything I'd say tonight is the perfect time to have them all on. [Post edited 12 Sep 11:39]

Bar Nunez (who would he replace?), you make a good point. Personally, I'd stick with Hirst for now, Ivor on bench with Nunez and Egeli.

We have no idea how good Ivan is other than a short cameo. I'd agree that Hirst had a poor game against Derby, in the right places, getting chances, but he looked really leggy and tired, as evidenced by his first touch being way off which was unlike him. He still makes us tick and does a lot more than just try to score.

Well for starters (if you pardon the pun) you wouldn't start the Norwegian kid, who's had precisely zero minutes with us. And you've already said on the bench. You say Azor is playing, Cajuste been playing, Nunez is fit... well not all of them can start. A couple of the others have barely trained with the squad, so it would be madness to start them. Unless, when you said "Throw every new signing in and get them playing" you didn't mean start them?!
