I listened to him in the car after the game on Saturday. I thought he was unnecessarily negative about our promotion chances.

What is the fascination with football pundit and fans with hair products and why do players need to gel all the time?

How many games have Greaves and OShea played together? If they still need to gel we really are screwed, so he's right.

I think some people are going too early. This leagiue is generally quite close so you go on a run, you go storming up the league.

To say "if we got in the playoffs, 'd be delighted with that" is a bit odd. That should be our minimum requirement.

I think Alex is unduly pessimistic and premature in his assessment. We've seen plenty of times before that relegated teams have a month or so of disruption and then grow and develop as the season progresses. I think it would be a surprise if the teams towards the top of the table at the moment are contenders come the end of the season, Leicester and perhaps Coventry aside. Give it a month or so and think things will look very different.

His punditry has always tended to be overly cuatious and quite critical, verging on negative - not saying his opinion is wrong but is more coming from glass half empty than half full.

Agree - 3 out of the 5 games so far have been either against sides expected to be in the promotion / play-off mix or a side with a good home record.

The trouble is that with the money spent and the squad we have, a lot of fans expectations were that we would be winning by at least 2-3 goals every game, but that was never the case. The team has to learn how to adapt to each other.

As for the defenders, I think they are being asked to play a slightly different way this season, at least Greaves is. He is being pushed a little further forward than before, which is being borne out in some of the statistics - a lot of his interceptions and tackles are in the mid 3rd of the pitch, which considering we spend more time on the front foot is not unexpected - but O'Shea's stats are slightly more conservative and show him playing deeper. I wonder whether Greaves is veing given the licence to push forward and create an extra man in midfield, but is therefore getting caught out more as he learns the balance of the role.

Most teams will not be expecting to beat us if they go toe to toe, so they opt for the disruption of the flow and suppression of our attempts to play football. Fouls against this season is averaging about 16 per game, while sides like 'Boro, Stoke, Brizzle and Leicester are between 12 and 13 . . . so ar this season in the games I have attended (at home) I felt teams have been allowed to get away with 2-3 fouls before the first card is issued than usual.

You may well be right re the centre-halves. Think we'll have more than a few games like Derby and Preston but will get better at finding a way through them and the only team which has tried to play football against us recently were Sheffield United, who we eventually took to the cleaners, although their lack of confidence had a fair bit to do with that as well. Think we'll just be too quick and too strong breaking forward for most teams, even while we're still finding our feet passing-wise.

That was the thing that stuck out most to me.

Frankly, failing to finish in the top six would be an absolutely bizarre failure.

I said back in July we'd probably not see the full potential of this squad until about november.

The thing with the champ and it's kinda showing already a run of wins gets you up the table quite quickly. So as long as we can keep within a few wins of the top two. It's all to play for.

Hard to not share his feelings on the CB pairing at the minute but they’re both good enough players to sort that out.

We’ll finish top 6 minimum though.

So if we have an all out defensive part of the pair in O'Shea and a defence to midfield player in Greaves do we then have to balance their positioning with a defensive midfielder in Matusiwa and a more advanced midfielder in Cajuste ? This asks a lot of the player's attention and needs to be supported by the left and right flanks to fill in any gaps that an opposition team will either notice or seek to introduce.

It's a very inconsistent division for the most part usually, one could say mediocre. The best teams often tend to emerge over the course of the season.

It's the constant dislike of our defenders i just don't understand. 2nd best xga in the league so far despite the team still gelling and they're getting heat.

Of course mistakes been made. But imo if defenders get heat for mistakes that lead to goals and the rest of their game ignored then the heat should replicate onto the forwards who miss a chance of scoring. It effects things equally really. They score the chances then other mistakes may not happen or may not even matter.

But his right isn't he. We look poor with a mistake in us every game. I wonder has McKenna run out of ideas. I hope not but we have been on a awful run months.Apart from a awful Sheffield United we have hardly excelled over the last ten months.

Exactly. I mentioned the other week before the Sheff Utd game that Leeds had a very similar start in 23/24 and ended up with 90 points.
