Ryder Cup 2025 thread 12:04 - Sep 26 with 3543 viewsThe_Romford_Blue

For those of us who will be watching this weekend, I thought a thread for it makes sense.

Who’d we reckon? I’ve had a lumpy bet on the Americans at 1.74 on the machine. For four reasons:
- Scottie Scheff. His singles point is almost automatic and he’s going to be lethal in the four balls as well.
- Depth. The yanks have every player ranked 23 or above in the rankings. Whereas Europe have 5 players ranked below that.
- Class. The Americans have 7 of the world’s top 10.
- Home advantage. That’s the main one for me. Only 2 away European victories in 45 years. I see no reason as to why that changes here. The course will be set up to suit the Americans.

Thought 1.74 was a proper price and have backed accordingly.

Poll: Would you take a draw tonight if offered right now?

Rory doing well with the bloody Americans so far.

The abuse he is getting is unbelievable. Police had to go into crowd. Even his opponents are telling the crowd to calm down. It's pretty disgraceful, to be honest. RTE live blog is saying they are all drunk on the expensive drinks being served.

Why would the police go into the crowd? This is the US giving it to the foreigners. Its the free speech they have fought for.

Frankly, I would not encourage the police anywhere near the crowd- they will probably drag off anyone with dark skin or a European accent at gunpoint, to deport them. Just out of habit.

You think free speech gives people to shout the abuse he has been subject to. Anyway, I would say it was to drag out the pissed up dick heads. I can't actually answer your question as to police tactics in USA and reasons they do or don't do things. Just saying what happened.

Embarrassing from the Americans.

Even the players and caddies are at it now.

Poor behaviour.

Was waiting for someone to say something.

There’s not a person on this forum that saw Scheffler playing like this coming. Quite literally the worst three rounds of golf he’s played in years. Impossible to have foreseen.

It’s only money anyway. We move on.

America are all over the place right now if we go into tomorrow on 10 points it makes the singles extremely intimidating.

Even better if we are on 12!

11 is the record score after 2 days isn't it?

I would like to see us win on the day tomorrow as well but it would be a spectacular turnaround if Europe didn't get the 2.5 needed.

If Hovland can’t play tomorrow, the envelope rule comes into play and in which both captains nominate a player to sit out should there be an injury to one of the other team, and the match is written off as a draw.
So that would be a half in the bag already.

Is that where certain lower league football teams would declare 4 others also unfit to play?!

Shouldn’t be a surprise and isn’t even particularly new at this event. I remember watching it on Sky as a kid in the 90s and someone kicked Langers ball behind a tree! I can recall Monty getting it a lot of lip years ago as well. Rory also copped a good amount of flack in Minnesota.

Couple of things on this from first hand experience Friday.

Don’t accuse me of excusing it but the liveliness of crowd in the Ryder cup adds to the event. The heckling and banter in the crowd was going back and forth all day. The event also crosses over to non traditional golf fans that turn up to back their side. I got there at 4.45am on Friday and there was thousands there already, huge lines of people who had beers on the go waiting for the gates to open. Also if you know anything about the area, Long Island was never going to bring out the most mild mannered sports fans!

Rory lives here and in the main is beloved when playing in the majors on US soil. It’s all just enemies for the weekend. There was a lot of British and irish there far from sober. The thing where it oversteps is the comments when about to take your shot, that’s not on but it just spurred is on even more.

Outside of that you don’t want a boring Ryder cup crowd, all adds to it and is makes it even more satisfying when we can shut them up on the greens.

It was amazing scene, yeah a lot of rich dudes on a boys weekend but everyone was having fun and generally it was fine. Anywhere selling booze at a patriotic type event for 12 hours is not going to be quiet.

Nothing wrong with bit of needle in a great rivalry.

It's not really a difficult course.... on 00:09 - Sep 27 by Bugs

Bethpage Black normally has far more bite, but it has been deliberately softened for this Ryder Cup to favour the USA team. The rough has been cut shorter, so missing fairways isn’t nearly as punishing as it would be in a major set-up.

This isn’t a new tactic — the Americans have often tailored Ryder Cup courses this way, relying on their collective distance advantage from the tee. But that edge has faded, and with today’s parity in driving distance, shorter rough doesn’t give them the same benefit it once did.

Bethpage is a course designed to reward accuracy, yet this set-up (helped along by the rain) has made it play far easier than it would under normal major championship conditions.

Yep, going in the rough has hardly been a death sentence this weekend. It’s not your typical type US course, which you associate more with longer holes and wide fairways. I don’t play but it looks proper tough to me. It’s a public course which is pretty cool, it was incredible from a viewing perspective though, if you found a decent spot as you could watch two greens and the tee box from a few different spots. Proper hilly mind, good workout ha.
