Cov showing the way forward 14:19 - Oct 4 with 4221 views | nrb1985 | Coventry basically showing that our pragmatic approach is probably not the way forward in my opinion. For whatever reason we are playing incredibly passively this season in a low block, despite an embarrassment of riches in terms of playing staff and resources. This is particularly frustrating given nobody other than Cov appear to be playing on the front foot this season. So many draws, nobody other than Boro putting down much of a marker. I do wonder how much better off we'd be points wise had we actually come out of the blocks looking to attack teams and assert some pressure from the off. The three away games have been a really tough watch so far. Just so frustrating to watch us not press home our advantage so far. Hopefully we can put that right starting tomorrow. But in a very worst case scenario, Cov could be out of sight by the time we decide we want to play on said front foot. [Post edited 4 Oct 14:22]

Fluid flowing forward play .. and players giving a license to roam ..mckenna I'm afraid is still trying to figure out where it's all going wrong .he's nearly a clone of amorin in United..stick to the system and they won't change ..

Hi - if you review my posts you’ll see I’m not one of the boo boys, far from it. Instead of your usual sneery condescending remarks though why don’t you try engaging with the question?

Is this, genuinely, how you feel about KM and Ipswich?

Exactly! And in the second half of that sheff utd game we pressed then to within an inch of their lives high up the pitch. Indeed we scored two goals that way. So my question to you is and our friend Waveney, why is it we don’t play like that every week? Especially given that we have Matusiwa who appears to be exceptional at that. Patterns of play and new faces etc I buy, it’s the sitting off in a low block instead of pressing teams high up the pitch I don’t get. [Post edited 4 Oct 14:56]

Cov showing the way forward on 14:51 - Oct 4 with 2577 views | ArnieM | We're very slow, predictable and seem to adopt a tippy tappy brand of football, mostly in our own half or on or around the half way line. No change in pace, caught on the break and vulnerable as hell at set pieces.

We’re bedding new players into a team and system, as you say, so you’ve answered your own question really. Which match particularly do you think we sat passively in a low block - my view would be that for parts of most games we faced periods where the opposition were in the ascendancy which necessitated us having to ensure we were solid and that includes the first half against Sheffield Utd. We aren’t (yet?) in a position where we can go gung ho and press all the time, match conditions and teams like Bristol City, who are very adept on the break, just don’t allow that,

in the present we've got 8 points in the last 4 games, the future looks bright under mckenna. if you prefer the chances of frank lampard's coventry, we'd let you go to sky blues talk for considerably less than 4m!

Yeah why won’t other teams just let us play and do exactly what we want every week?
| |
Cov showing the way forward on 15:35 - Oct 4 with 2246 views | SheffordBlue | Think it's maybe less a case of not coming out on the front foot (I thought we did that to start with at Bristol City and some other games) and more a case of struggling to change gear and go again when the game slows down for whatever reason. We were really passive after that initial burst in the first half and it then took the half-time team talk to get them going again.

Think you’ve missed the point lad. It’s why don’t we impose ourselves on them high up the pitch and press them rather than letting them play their way into games. Not - why won’t they just sit off us and let us play our game.
Cov showing the way forward on 15:39 - Oct 4 with 2197 views | Herbivore | Your characterisation of our play is way off. We don't set up in a low block at all. We've been trying to take the game to opponents but it's not always worked as we aren't fully clicking yet. Coventry have a settled side that ended last season well, hence being a more cohesive attacking force currently.

Have to disagree - I said something similar in another thread and quite a lot of people agreed. Most of which weren’t the usual boo boys either. So at the very least we can say, some reasonably well informed people and myself, don’t think the way I’ve characterized our play to date as “way off”.
Cov showing the way forward on 15:48 - Oct 4 with 2106 views | LeoMuff | We are not a low block team, clearly. Teams are low blocking us on a regular basis which makes breaking them down tough. Coventry started well, could easily be play off or mid table by the end. Leagues not decided by 4th October.

I've seen all bar one of our games and the description of us playing in a low block just doesn't tally up at all with what I've seen.

Me neither, we've taken the game to everyone we've played. We had 64 per cent possession away against a team in the top four on Tuesday, which illustrates the point.
Cov showing the way forward on 15:53 - Oct 4 with 2055 views | Daninthecampo | If we win our 2 games in hand we're 3 points behind them and we've not even been playing well This great Coventry team had to rely on a 96th minute equaliser to draw at home to the scum Im 99% certain we'll finish way above them at the end of the season

We don’t have two games in hand. When you’re playing in the same gameweek but not at the same time it’s not a game in hand. Sorry, just a pet hate of mine
