Walle-Egeli offers more than McAteer 14:57 - Oct 5 with 3542 viewscbower

Not a criticism of McAteer. Maybe away from home, Kasey might offer a more solid defensive contribution. There will be plenty of minutes for both with Wes in that equation post Christmas too.

If burns coms back and is the same player, you can’t see Macateer getting much time

The only Muff in Town.

Talented boy, but looks like he needs time to adjust to us/league - which is completely understandable.

Decision making at times was poor today, but with development and game time there looks to be a real talent there.

Yep McAteer actually does a brilliant job of stopping attacks down our left hand side. Defensively he is good and he reads the game well

It's a wise purchase of both, IMO.

Sindre will absolutely shine under KM's coaching, I have no doubt. He is skillful, tenacious, inventive, brave, just like Omari, but perhaps better. McAteer offers the equivalent of Townsend to Davis - flair? Not really. Solid defensive work with the option of bombing forward? Absolutely yes.

Would love Burns to be back to being Burns but I think honestly.he may go in Jan. He's 31 next month so it makes more sense to go with McAteer and Egeli for the future.

Would love to see Burns back at his best but let's see.

I think one of Burns or Johnston might go in January. Egeli/McAteer clearly have the right hand side shirt nailed on, plus we have Ogbene out on loan getting fit.

Genuine question about mcateer

What are his attributes? Genuine question that other than being direct what's he known for?

He does make good runs off the ball, at Leicester he was good at running in behind the defence and of course he is persistent and works hard but frankly he is so technically poor and lacking in composure that his qualities are totally neutralised by his deficiencies IN MY OPINION.

Still think McCateer is a good option to have, whilst Egeli is so raw...
No point in comparing the two, imo, as they are just different types of player.
I can see McCateer being that bit more disciplined and just following the managers instruction. He has good character and runs for the team, stretches full backs out wide and gets back to help out defensively, coupled with bags of experience at Champ' level and being part of a promotion push with Foxes....
Most probably brought in as a contingency whilst Egeli settles and improves.?
It might be that Egeli needs to be taken out of the firing line now and then.. And McCateer is a quality option to have at this level.
Forget the price tag. People are happy to use it negatively... On the flip side, Furlong is looking like a snip.. Swings and roundabouts..

But yes, Egeli looks to have a lot in his locker. I'm most impressed with his physicality. Despite his size, I thought it might take him a bit longer to get to grips with the rough and tumble of English football. But he seems to brush off challenges with ease... Can see him having a storming 2nd half of the season. Much like Hutch did in his first season here.

Not sure about "wise" given that they both cost huge fees. £11.5m for a Championship bench warmer (McAteer)?
Let's see if McKenna can mould him & Walle into Premier League standard players & then they can be considered "wise purchases".

Mcateer is limited but he’s good enough backup at this level, we were very light on that right hand side. It’s a long season and he’ll get game time. Agree the consensus that we paid too much but hopefully KM can take his game up a notch.

Egeli was great to watch, brings some physical strength which we lack on the wing. Pretty raw as you’d expect but if we can go up this season and he gets plenty of game time, he looks built for the PL.

They’ll both play plenty of football this season. Wouldn’t surprise me come the end of the season if they’ve started a similar amount of games as each other, with plenty of appearances off the bench as well.

Yes they both have a place in our squad , cover all bases.

I think we could have a world class player on our hands with Sindre, there is something about him and I can't quite put my finger on it right now but by January he will be up to speed.

Look at Jaden, he was written off by most and after 9 months of KM coaching he is now seriously hot property.

Sadly if these players get to the 'level' which we saw last season then they will be subject to bids from PL teams, very much file under Delap and Hutch transfer status wise come end of the season.

Agreed, although McAteer has been hard done by because he's been brought in to run in behind full-backs but the role behind the striker has been changed to a withdrawn forward rather than a link player to play through balls.

McAteer would do better with Walle-Egeli in the number ten role.
