Realistic players that is. Someone who we could potentially have actually signed for the period they played.

Mine is David Nugent. Hate him for always scoring against us and never quite signing for us

Poll: Will Phil ever confirm we are actually close on a signing ever again

Nugent.

Thirded 👍

Another who was the bane of our lives for years but who I can’t remember enough about to say whether I’d have wanted him to sign for us, was Paul Dickov.

Regular plays on his name when he scored against us is probably what I most remember him for.

Pat Jennings

This was my immediate thought two. With him we’d have won the league a couple of times and maybe a cup or two more as well. He was that good. Hands like shovels.

It’s a name that always comes up, but did Paul Cooper really cost us a couple of league titles?

I know Jennings was an excellent keeper but I don’t recall Coops being a liability.

I believe so.

Paul Cooper agile, brave, good shot and penalty stopper. On the downside he didn’t have much presence about him, not least because he was a bit too small. He was for me a level down on Jennings,

Jennings had a size and a presence about him and was certainly in the bracket of Clemence and Shilton (look what he added to Nottingham Forest - Clough wasn’t wrong) .

It was how it felt at the time and I’ve not really changed my view on that over the years. With scout 450 appearances, PC served us well but we were so close on more than one occasion and a little extra quality in that area might have made that difference.

Another vote for Savage.
An annoying $hit as an opposition player, but a far better footballer than he was ever given credit for. He really could play, and with fire and passion.

Another former Nodger - Craig Bellamy. I remember being stood behind the North Stand goal when he poked one in for Coventry and disliking him still but having to appreciate what a good finish he made of it. See also Jermaine Defoe for West Ham (edit - in terms of where I was stood when Defoe scored, he might have stooped as low as moving from Charlton to West Ham but was never as mixed up as to leave The Gas for Carrot Rudd.)

Not hate them as in the person. Hate them as the player becaue they were tough, niggly, just plain too good for us or maybe even coz they're were just knobs but you would have liked them to have been our knob

Graham Souness would have been useful cover.

I’ll no doubt draw flak by suggesting another Budgie………Darren Eadie. At the time we had Stuart Slater who never really did it in a Town shirt.

He always had a smile on his face. Good for whoever he played for.

Slightly odd one as both of them did play for town but I remember during the Royle days being infuriated by, while wishing we had, the D. Johnson/M. Harewood duo who seems to always give us the runaround at Forest.

I've never wanted any player I've hated to join town. Apart from all Norwich players, the players I've disliked most are diving cheats.

So, I've been surprised at how forgiving and even loving I've been this season towards Marcelino Núñez and Ashley Young. Love 'em both to bits.
